    Default Distributor gear

Is the dist. Gear different, for a crate? Than a regular Chevy racing engine?

for a 604 bronze will work but is not necessary
on 604's we use primarily the black hardend MSD gear and have had zero issues with cam or distriburtor gear wear
we have seen bronze work well also but always start out with a new gear---trying to put a used gear into a new environment generally does not work well and with bronze it shows issues quickly
the GM melonized gear is also a good choice

generic (cheap) hardened gears do not work well---these are found on $100 distributors

We have found that nothing works better than the GM melonized gear on the 602
we have seen endless failures with bronze on 602's
the GM gear is .491 bore size but is easily honed to .500 for MSD use

    as ever
