Interesting
Funny reading over all the opinions of a photographer trying to get a good shot. I also find funny how when a guy is a veteran you call him a hero or when a police officer takes down a criminal he's also called a hero. But a photographer who makes no money at photography, tries to get the most unique photos you call him crazy and assume if he gets injured or killed he will sue the track and another track closes. You could not be no more wrong. You see this photographer is only trying to get the best shots possible, this photographer dose not get paid for what he dose, this photographer cares about producing a product that people will enjoy to help promote the sport only because he has deep love for the sport that has been part of his life for over 35 years. Never would this photographer sue East Alabama Motor Speedway, he knows the risk and simply accepts it and continues to try to find a unique perspective. When this photographer was in the Army no one made him jump out of a plain, in the dark onto a combat zone, he did it because he wanted to and he understood and accepted it, "Fully knowing the hazards of his chosen profession". No one complained when this photographer was shot twice and once pined down by gunfire during an incursion of Mexico's military. Maybe one day when your in an accident this photographer will just say, "forget it, this person is not worth saving", but he wont because he never quits trying. Maybe a few of you wish you had the heart to walk in his shoes, hes no fool he understand what he can do and what he cant. The worst thing you could do is try to stop him. Maybe you should try and get to know him before you criticize him.
P.S. He always has ear protection in.
Keep up the good work Eric!

Im sure hes a fine photographer, but he is begging to get seriously hurt. Or worse. If so much as a piece of aluminum body or spoiler or whatever comes off at that speed, hes going to the emergency room, or worse. I sure hope not, but come on, use a little sense. If the insurance company covering that place gets a load of this, the track will be looking for a new carrier.
-
If the groove was up high nobody would mention how dangerous it is.
I've seen a racing photographers do more retarded sh*t than that.

Exactly. And then the pit passes go up to cover the insurance and people will b!tch about how expensive it is to go to the races. And it will be the same people that think there is nothing wrong with standing on the fence to take pictures.
Some people just don't get it.

Not condoning this practice at all, but some have jobs in which they have to take chances. To those who do... Thank you, and God bless!!

Not sure the guy in the wheelchair flipped, too? Also thought the guy in the red shirt got scatter-shotted in the legs and was bleeding -- turns out he's just tatted up.
Anyway, I was more nervous at KC doing the pit fence thing than the hole in the fence at Eldora (every race fan should do that once in their life). Really, inside an infield fence feels safer than the outside. Physics kinda clicks that common sense switch in these situations.

Anyone remember the Colossal 100 at Charlotte the first year (2006?) when Billy Moyer got knocked out by a rock and was going wide open thru the infield doing donuts? Photographers were scattering everywhere! That was incredibly dangerous.
