(Lavonia, Georgia) – The weather was absolutely perfect after a miserable long winter that seemed to never want to end but finally on a beautiful March weekend the “FASTRAK Universe” flocked to the 3/8th mile clay surface Lavonia Speedway & Entertainment Complex in Georgia for the 3rd edition of “Late Model Mania”. When it’s your night, it’s you night and when it’s your weekend, it’s your weekend. That proved true for the Greenwood, SC native in the #2 MasterSbilt as Colby Cannon was able to dominate in the “Georgia Night” Sunday to pick up his 1st career FASTRAK Racing Series touring win at “Late Model Mania”.

The race started off with almost thirty cars prepared to get 2015 off in fashion and after an issue that taken place with the scoring loop under anyone’s control the decision was made to have all the cars start the 35 lap feature which paid $2,000 to the winner with almost $12,000 purse for the event at Lavonia Speedway. The race started off with #85 Steve LaMance in his TNT chassis on the pole to get the event underway that was caution filled with a high attrition rate. On the opening lap Colby Cannon would get the jump on LaMance going into turn one and jumped out in front #07 Larry Timms would loop exiting turn three. The green would fly again with LaMance bring the field for the 2nd official start and quickly again Cannon would use the top side to his advantage and pull away. Once he cleared the cars of David Smith in the #ZR1 entry TNT chassis and #187 of David McCoy they all began to battle amongst themselves but Cannon was able to sail from the pack. Another yellow would fall for a solo spin on #54 Justin Mintz going into the “spin cycle” on his own off turn four.

Numerous wrecks we’re during the entire feature with cars battling hard for the first event of the year which slowed the action but as soon as the racing would commence Cannon who was actually racing with flu like health issues would set sail but was finding the perfect cure better than medicine leading the pack and shooting for his 1st ever victory. The biggest wreck of the event would happen off turn four on a restart when #21 Royce Bray had battery issues and lost power to the car coming to power. Everyone else jumbled up behind him causing an eight car incident in the process. Drivers involved included #07 Larry Timms, #22 Jordan Dill, #8 Ron Parker, #77 Brian Connor and others. After the Red flag racing would get fired up again and the leader Cannon would quickly go back to the “same ole song and dance” setting sail.

With under 10 laps to go and Cannon leading still holding off Smith, McCoy, A. Smith, the drivers that we’re involved in the big wreck #8 Ron Parker and #07 Larry Timms would then begin an ascent to run back down the front pack trying to mix things up for the finish. Another lengthy caution into Red flag condition would ensue off turn one when #22 Nick Dietz sustained sever hard impact in the outside retaining wall but would walk away uninjured. On the restart Parker in his Rocket from Bellwood, NC would go into stealth mode and drive the top side of the race track and gain ground on the pack where everyone else protected the bottom. Parker would however have those topside efforts fall short after the suspension broke on the left front and shot him hard into the wall into turn two.

This would set up a Green, White Checkered shootout for the finish. Smith and Timms tried absolutely all they could to run down Cannon but with the leader not feeling well and even breaking a A-frame on the MasterSbilt with under ten revolutions remaining it wasn't enough to stop the car from “Red Hill, GA” and the driver from Greenwood, SC in the Cornett Motorsports owned entry find the perfect remedy to being “ill” and that was to take the checkered flag to win “Late Model Mania” but also secure his 1st ever career FASTRAK National Touring series victory Sunday at Lavonia, GA. The four time and defending FASTRAK champion David Smith in the TNT House car Jensen Ford use to pilot would be the runner-up and Larry Timms, David McCoy and Cla Knight rounded out the Top five.
