Ponderosa Speedway Has Successful Test and Tune Practice Day and Awards Ceremony

Junction City, KY-March 22, 2015- Ponderosa Speedway track promoter Jerry Denson had the 3/8 mile D-shaped oval known as “Kentucky’s Baddest Bullring” for its annual Test and Tune Practice Day and 2014 Awards Celebration and a total of 33 drivers had cars on hand to take practice laps, with a handful hanging around for the Awards Ceremony after practice.

Drivers in attendance for the Test and Tune Open Practice were as follows: Super Late Models- Mike Marlar, Dustin Linville, Tripp Gerrald, Dennis Barton, Ernie Cordier, Brian Smith; Pro Late Models- Brian Walters, Stacey Decker, Derek Bottoms, Clayton Spradlin, Perry Barnhardt, Wesley Ball, Chad Spradlin, Gary Noplis, Chris Fair; Modifieds- J.T. Ayers, Brent Denny, Joseph Husband; KDRA Super Stocks- Glen Branham, Dean Boyd, Donnie Sullivan, Johnny King, Glen Hounshell, Jr., Terry Cheeks, Bartley Grant, Daniel Howard, Jeremy Howard, John Cole; Mini-Cup/Cyclones- Jason Bell, Scott Crusenberry, Tim Crusenberry, William Alsip, Emily Cook.

Following the conclusion of practice, those that wanted to stay around were treated to a meal, followed by the awards ceremony, with the top ten in track points from 2014 receiving trophies and plaques.

Dion Benningfield of Lebanon, KY was honored as the 2014 Super Late Model track champion. Timmy Taylor of Harrodsburg, KY, Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY, Victor Lee of Danville, KY, and Dustin Linville of Bryantsville, KY completed the top five in Super Late Model track points. The remainder of the top ten in 2014 track points were Tim Tungate of Campbellsville, KY, Jake Henry of Junction City, KY, Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY, Tripp Gerrald of Nicholasville, KY, and Tommy Bailey of Corbin, KY.

Todd Coffman of Junction City, KY was honored as the 2014 Pro Late Model track champion. Elliott Despain of Campbellsville, KY, Gary Yeager of Harrodsburg, KY, Wesley Brummett of Harrodsburg, KY, and Zane Powell of Junction City, KY would finish second through fifth in Pro Late Model track points. Completing the top ten would be Chris Fair of Liberty, KY, Glen Hounshell, Jr. of Mount Vernon, KY, David Hill of Nicholasville, KY, Jeremy Strunk of Bronston, KY, and P.J. Feistritzer of Danville, KY.

Ryan Thomas of Gosport, IN was honored as the 2014 Modified track champion. Michael England of Glasgow, KY would take runner-up honors, with Rocky Wilson of Elizabethtown, KY, Elliott Despain of Campbellsville, KY, and J.T. Ayers of New Haven, KY completing the top five in points. Rounding out the top ten would be Steven Eversole of Crab Orchard, KY, Benji Lee of Loretto, KY, Jeff Watson of Campbellsville, KY, Stacey Decker of Eubank, KY, and Blake Brown of Corbin, KY.

Glen Hounshell, Jr. was honored as the 2014 Sportsman track champion, with the division taking the name Super Stocks for 2015. Glen Branham of Berea, KY, Sarah Patrick of Albany, KY, Terry Cheeks of Paint Lick, KY, and Jeremy Howard of Berea, KY completed the top five in final points. The remainder of the top ten were Darrell Cain of Richmond, KY, Eddie Stewart of Manchester, KY, Derek Bottoms of Taylorsville, KY, Johnny King of Lancaster, KY, and Nathaniel Mullins of Berea, KY.

Ponderosa Speedway will kick off its 2015 racing season this Friday evening March 27 with a full racing program that will include Pro Late Models, Modifieds, KDRA Super Stocks, and Mini-Cup/Cyclones, with Super Late Models allowed to practice.
