Mechanical Woes Cost Ray Cook Podium Run at Smoky Mountain Speedway

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) Ray Cook and his #53 team ventured to Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee on Saturday evening, March 28 for an Ultimate Super Late Model Series tussle. Ray laid down the third quickest lap during the qualifying session, which locked him into the inside of the second row for the start of the $5,000 to win main event.

The Brasstown, North Carolina ace was then running in the second spot on lap 38 when a broken right rear birdcage caused him to retire from the 50-lap affair. Ray was placed a disappointing fifteenth in the final finishing order at SMS due to the mechanical woes. Complete results from the Knoxville-area speedplant can be viewed online at www.ultimatesupers.com.

Ray will turn his focus back to promoting over the upcoming April 2-4 extended weekend, as his Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series tour will preside over a trio of big events in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Over $55,000 in purses will be up for grabs in the “Kentucky Triple Crown,” which features races this weekend at 201 Speedway in Sitka, Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, and Florence Speedway in Union.
