    Default brass filings in gear oil of Winters rear

    Any ideas on where to check? Thanks

    How many laps since its been last split apart/rebuilt? Take a magnet to these shavings and verify if you haven't already...

    Pretty sure the only brass would be the ring gear backer. Like above stated magnet to double check . Steel can get heated to a brass like color. Either way take it apart an look.

    The gear backer thrust button is the only brass I can think of in a Winters. To wear that you have other issues in the carrier bearing I would think. Pretty sure you need a complete tear down and overhaul.

    Or someone cranked it down during a bolt check! lol It has happened!

    a winters rear has nothing brass in it unless it has the low friction ball bearings on the spool or pinion I have seen the spacers for the balls break ,the side preload spacer is hardened steel in a winters, frankland has the non adjustable brass spacer on the side bell

    I just pulled the tubes out of an older winters qc and it had a brass backing plate. who know if it was oem or a replacement.
