    Default Header bolts

Anybody ever tried using studs instead of bolts?
Just seems like it would make it easier to line everything up when putting them on.

Normally the head of a header bolt is much smaller than a nut would be for a stud. There is not enough room on all the tubes to use a 9/16.

Yeah...you're right. And even if it would work it would be next to impossible to get a turn on a wrench. Oh well...

i like using header bolts with a 5/16" head - like schoenfeld 3006-12.

We use a combinations of studs and bolts, I think 1 bolt on each side otherwise studs. Easier to tighen and makes install simple.

ARP sells 12pt 3/8 nut that only takes a 7/16 socket or wrench.

Stage 8 locking fasteners Make a 12 point low profile with locks very easy to use and when you use the locks they never come loose

Allen headed cap screws from the local hardware store.
I made tool just for this reason. I used a ball type 3/8 allen wrench and cut off the short side 'L' leg. Then welded a 3/8 drive socket on the Allen wrench. It could have been used as is but I went a step further and machined a diamond knurl into the shank for grip when starting the bolts with one hand and holding the header with the other.

I use the 5/16 head bolts and put red high temp silicone on the threads, never loosened up more than a half turn all season.
