MURPHY, NC (May 21, 2015)—George Mashburn had 1,200 reasons to smile when he rolled into Victory Lane on May 15th at Tri-County Race Track.

The 35-year-old Murphy, N.C. native qualified fourth but started from the front row after a may-lay involving two of the front cars. Mashburn led from start to finish for the $1,200 Super Late Model payday in front of his hometown crowd.

But that is not necessarily why the humble Mashburn is all smiles.

After collecting the $1,200 payday and his first win at Tri-County since the 2009 season, Mashburn donated his winnings to someone less fortunate.

Mashburn’s selfless act of kindness went to help a friend that lives in nearby Copperhill, Tenn. who is suffering from throat cancer. “We said if we won we’d give all the money to a good friend. His insurance isn’t that good,” said the two-time Tri-County Race Track points champion.

The win at Tri-County also meant a lot to Mashburn. “It was bittersweet, been a long time coming,” stated Mashburn. “I give my God all the honor and praise. We had a monkey on our back and got it off and we’re gonna go from there and see what we can do.”

Mashburn traveled with the Spring Nationals Series in 2013 and finished eighth in the final totals. He learned several things from being out on the road and brought them back to his program for Tri-County.

“Being at different tracks you learn different driving styles and learn how to change your car on shocks and make adjustments, more than anything was driving style. At one track you’re so used to one driving style, when you go and travel at several tracks, you have different styles you have to adopt to and make the car work for you and that definitely helps you when you travel,” said Mashburn who is competing in his fourteenth season in a Super Late Model.

When the Southern Nationals Bonus Series rolls into Tri-County Race Track on Monday Night for the Fifth Annual Circuit World Memorial Day Championship Race, Mashburn feels he has one up on the competition coming from out of town. “We might have a little heads up on the race track, you can’t take nothing away from those guys they’re good at what they do, they can read the track probably better than I can but I think with our home track and racing there more we might have a little advantage,” stated the confident Mashburn. “We kind of know what the track is going to do, we know where it’s going to blow off and where the groove is going to be most of the time.”

Mashburn drives a Steve Allen-powered MasterSbilt Race Car. His supporters include: Interstate Welding & Steel Supply, Cherokee Septic Tanks, Mashburn Enterprises, Total Control Shocks, American Racer South, Mashburn Builders, Chip Sticks and his number one supporter Jesus Christ.

On Monday May 25th at Tri-County the pit & grandstand gates open at 4:00 pm with the Driver’s Meeting slated for 6:00 pm and racing to begin at around 6:30 pm. Adult General Admission is $17.00 with children ages 11-16 admitted for $10.00 while children ten and under are free.
