    BOYD’S SPEEDWAY RESULTS 5-16-2015
(Ringgold,Ga/Chattanooga,Tn) With Mother Nature trying her best to take Victories away from local racers, she chose to spare the area around Boyd’s Speedway so the local fans and racers could finally see a little dirt fly. Boyd’s Speedway was hosting the Twins 20 paying a $1000 to the winner in two 20 lap Feature Events for the Limited Late Models. After the qualifying and Heat races had been completed and the Feature Lineups had been set it was time for the first of 6 Feature races to begin. First out would be the B-Hobby “Heavy Weights” with Jeff Irvin and Ricky Wagner bringing the field to the green flag. Wagner would take the early lead from Irvin and both would set sail. Wagner would go on to capture another Boyd’s Speedway Feature Win followed by Irvin, Jason Tate, Ringgold’s Charles Williams and Larry Whaley.

Next would be the first of the Twin 20 lapper for the Limited Late Models. With Former Southern All-stars Champion and past Track Champion Jamie Perry starting in the number one spot. Alongside Perry would be Cleveland’s John Ownbey as they prepared to bring the field to the green flag for the first of 20 laps. Ownbey would take the early lead off of turn 1 with Perry close behind. The field slowed early with a lap one caution for Dalton’s Gary McPherson in turn 2. Once back underway Ownbey, Perry and Ringgold’s Mike Tinker settle into a groove that saw little change in their positions. On lap 16 we saw Tinker make his move and took over the 2nd place position and moved Perry back to 3rd. Ownbey would take Feature #1 and the $1000 Prize, but before leaving the front stretch he would be stopped and he would select a 3 pill which meant the 1st and 3rd rows would change places for Feature #2. Ownbey was followed by Tinker, Perry, Hixson’s Robby Mason and Tod Hernandez. The entire field headed back to the pits to make necessary changes to make their cars better or maintain what they had for Feature #2.

In the meantime the Crate Late Models were called to the front stretch for their 25 lap Feature. Craig Burrows had the pole after setting the fastest time among his competitors. Starting alongside of Burrows on the front row was the #17 of Brett Wyatt. Burrows took the field to the green and took the early lead but couldn’t see the hot battle between Wyatt and last week’s Feature Winner Booker Brooks battling for 2nd behind him. A lap 3 caution for the #C44 driven by Corey Lawless would slow the field early and would see Lawless retire early to the pits. Once back under green Burrows would lead the field in the Double File Restart with Wyatt and Brooks in tow. Burrows would lead from flag to flag for his First Boyd’s Speedway Victory of the year. Burrows was followed by Wyatt, Brooks, Soddy Daisy’s Jerry Coffman (which had register to run in the Twin 20’s, but after early mechanical problems in that car he sent his crew from A-1 Towing back to the shop and picked up his Crate Late Model car and had to start from the rear starting position) rounding out the top five was Ringgold’s Bobby Richey Jr.

A-Hobby Feature was captured by the XXX driven by Jimmy Smith followed by Jesse Goss and Ralph McWhorter. The Pony Feature saw EJ Bailey take yet another Feature followed by Terry Gant, Patrick Henry and Chris Rogers.

The Final Feature of the evening would see the Limited Late Models return for the 2nd Twin 20. Before the race the fans were given the opportunity to come see their drivers up close as an out of the car introduction was made. With 1st Feature winner John Ownbey pulling a three pill the 1st and 3rd row would be inverted. This placed Tod Hernandez and Aaron Wilson on the front row. During the introduction of drivers co-track owner and Promoter Dale McDowell made several laps in the water truck helping smooth the topside of the 1/3 mile clay oval. And with this came some of the best racing seen at Boyd’s Speedway this year. With Hernandez and Wilson bringing the field to the green, Wilson would dive from the topside deep into turn 1 and take the early lead. A lap 1 caution would see the #47 of Dustin Golden retire to his pits with mechanical problems. Now once under green Wilson had a new 2nd place competitor in Hixson’s Robby Mason driving the black and White #H31. Mason tried several time to take the top spot from Wilson as they battled door to door. In a quick move to the top Mason made his move and took the lead on lap 5. A lap 8 caution for the cars of David Duplissey and Paul Tims in Turn 2 would slow the field as the cars were taken care of. Mason lead the field back to the green flag but by the double file restart allowed John Ownbey to take over the second place spot and had his eyes on Mason and the 2nd Victory of the night. The two battled for seven laps bumper to bumper door to door until lap 16 when Ringgold’s Mike Tinker wanted some of the upfront action. Tinker made his move on lap 16 and took 2nd from Ownbey. As the last laps counted down Mason protected his high line, but the fans were on their feet with three and four wide racing for the lead with Mason, Tinker, Perry and Ownbey battling. A lap 18 caution for David Duplissey and the retiring Brannon Armitage would set the field for a two lap shootout. Mason would take his first 2015 Boyd’s Speedway Victory followed by Tinker, Perry, Ownbey and Wilson.

Next week Boyd’s Speedway moves back to Friday for a ONE WEEK ONLY Ole Man’s Garage Ray Cook Spring National Super Late Model Event. Come early as a huge crowd is expected for the first of the 3 Memorial Weekend Spring Nationals hit the South. Pit Gates will open at 3 PM and General Admission Grandstands will open at 4 PM

Car count has been great. They have only had one bad night because of threat of rain. They have done a great job with the place. Better than most. I went a couple weeks ago to cleveland and they had a very low car count, but still great racing. They all have off nights here and there.
