CARTERSVILLE, GA - Week 9 of the 27-week 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series has reached the busy Memorial Day Weekend when drivers have the opportunity to run for “The Quinella.” There are nine races over four days in six different states.

There are three NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series races on Friday night, three races on Saturday night, two races on Sunday night and one race that will open Week 10 competition on Monday night. No driver has ever captured The Quinella, or won a race each day of the Holiday weekend.

Of course, only a driver’s highest point night during the week will count towards their season total. But nonetheless, having the honor of winning The Quinella looks good on a driver’s resume and becomes legend in the history of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 9 Friday night races will be held at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, Penton Raceway in Penton, AL, and Salina Speedway in Salina, KS. Two of the three Saturday night Week 9 events will be held at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

The third NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 9 Saturday night race will be a $1,000-to-win race co-sanctioned by the Southern Crate Late Model Series at Underwood Speedway in Chatham, LA. This race will be Round 3 of the 2015 Southern Crate Late Model Series season. Battleground Race Park in Highlands, TX and Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS will each host special Sunday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 9 events.

Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL will host Round 4 of the 2015 NeSmith Panhandle Challenge Series with a $1,000-to-win race on Monday night to open Week 10 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 334 points and holds a two point lead over Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS with 332 points. Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL is third with 280 points, and he also leads the NeSmith Panhandle Challenge Series point standings.

The 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 277 points, and Cliff Williams of Star, MS is fifth with 241 points. Hunter Lewis of Moss Point, MS is sixth with 240 points, and three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Collinsville, MS is seventh with 234 points.

Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS is eighth in the standings with 216 points, and Al Kouhout of Hattiesburg, MS is ninth with 214 points. Nick Thrash of Meridian, MS rounds out the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 213 points.

Aside from the points, the Weekly Point Averages, or the WPAs of the Top 20 drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings tells a different tale of who’s hot and who’s not.

Williams has the highest WPA at 48.20 out of a possible 50, and to find the driver with the second highest WPA among the Top 20 in points, you have to go down to the 12th-place driver, 13-year-old Cruz Skinner, who has a WPA of 48. Skinner also leads the Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series point standings for NeSmith Late Model drivers 18 years of age and younger.

Arnold has the third highest WPA at 47.71 and Lee has the fourth highest WPA at 47.43. Keeton has the fifth highest WPA at 46.80, and the driver 13th in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings, Robbie Starnes of Livingston, TX, has the sixth highest WPA at 46.75. Joiner has the seventh highest WPA at 46.67.

Casey Haney of Meridian, MS, who is 14th in the point standings, has the eighth highest WPA at 46.5, and Daspit has the ninth highest WPA at 46.17. Greg Fore of Greenville, MS, who is 15th in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings, has the tenth highest WPA among the Top 20 drivers in the point standings at 45.75.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series will compete against each other nationally using a points system that will count their best 14 weekly point totals over a 27-week season from March 23 through September 27. The $20,000 National point fund will pay $10,000 to the National Champion and pay back to the Top 10 drivers in the final point standings.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competitors have the option of two different economical Chevrolet Performance Circle Track Engines to compete with. The aluminum-head 400 horsepower 604 engine costs $5,795 and the steel-head 350 horsepower Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine with a 100-pound weight break costs $3,495.
