Ron Parker surges with momentum with another FASTRAK Tour win after taming Toccoa

By Wesley Outland

(Carnesville, Georgia) 6/6/15 – The Toccoa Raceway 5/16 mile facility located just a short drive off I-85 in downtown Toccoa, Georgia is steeped with history. It’s the longest running active track in the “Peach State”. This year marks its 60th Anniversary of speed. Most of all the stars and cars of the FASTRAK Racing Series Southeast Touring Division returned to the speedway after a 2 year absence on Saturday June 6th. The race was put on in front of another packed house eager to see the return of “FASTRAK’s Elite”.

Ron Parker out of Bellwood, NC was the class of the field holding off the likes of #25 Matt Long and local favorite #187 David McCoy after starting on the pole and after holding off several charges throughout the 40 lap race was able to pick up his 3rd FASTRAK tour win and continue also his quest for the $10,000 championship holding on to the points after the $2000 to win feature concluded at Toccoa Speedway located just a short distance off Highway 17 in Georgia.

The race night kicked off with hot laps and disappointment for the 4 time and defending champion David Smith from Inman, SC after crashing hard into the wall in turn 3 crippling his car from competing. However driver of the #1 Jerry Loudermilk allowed Smith to get in his machine to compete for touring points. Frankie Beard in his #21 machine was the VP Race for the Pole quick time machine. That then set up three heat races with Parker, Long and Beard achieving those.

The stage was set for the fans to see a wild show get underway after the 2 year absence of the series. The race in its entirety saw only four caution flag periods. With the racing surface beginning to change right during the midpoint of the race Parker was able to surge away from any rivals that tried to relinquish the top spot. Yellow flag would 1st come out on lap 1 after #14 Adam Smith spun going into turn one with help. Then on the restart it set up a 10 lap green flag sprint with Parker out in front Long, Beard and also notables #85 Steve Lamance and #42 Cla Knight within striking distance. After the race being slowed twice for single car incidents and the rally to the front also of #2 Colby Cannon, #5 Rusty Jordan and #85 Lamance would suffer problems causing the field to bunch up for a late finish.

With Parker still out in front and containing to carry the momentum carried from just two weeks ago winning his 1st FASTRAK National Tour event in 6 years at Wythe Raceway acuminating a $3000 payday and his 2nd FASTRAK Triple Crown title in 3 years, e had the bulls eye on him. After Nathan Bray from Hull, GA bounced off the wall stalling and causing yellow for the final time, this set up an 18 lap duel to the finish. Parker was able to hold off a late push to the bottom by Long and topside by David McCoy exiting 3 wide into corners one and two.

Realizing that attack was eminent he put the afterburners on and was never able to look in the rear-view mirror anymore as Parker would tame Toccoa Raceway and the $2000 payday that was distributed from a $12,000 purse show for taking 1st prize. Long with a strong effort took 2nd with McCoy, Beard and Cannon all having strong finishes to help the battle up the ladder. With that win in conclusion allows Parker to strengthen his points lead looking for the points championship at season’s end.
