Default Second-Straight Southern Nationals Win for Dennis Franklin, This Time it’s Modoc

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Second-Straight Southern Nationals Win for Dennis Franklin, This Time it’s Modoc

By Chris Tilley, Series P.R. Coordinator

MODOC, SC (July 27, 2015)—Dennis Franklin led flag-to-flag for the $3,500 payday Monday night at Modoc (S.C.) Raceway in the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series-sanctioned event.

The Gaffney, S.C. driver took the home-state victory while driving the M&W Towing, C&D Properties, and Nichols Plumbing-sponsored Clements Racing Engines-powered Longhorn Chassis. This was Franklin’s ninth career Southern Nationals Series victory and with the win moves to tie with Jonathan Davenport at second on the all-time winners list.

Six caution flags slowed the event. The first yellow came out on lap one as Rob Mayea spun his mount on the front-chute. The second yellow came on lap 3 as Jim Manka stopped in turn one after making contact with the turn four wall after a broken tie-rod. The next yellow came on lap 15 as Mark Whitener slowed in turn two. On lap 16, Richie Corley spun in front of Brandon Carpenter but Carpenter kept going without stopping. The lap 22 yellow came for Gib Gibbons spinning in turn two and the final yellow which flew on lap 29 came out as Brandon Carpenter stopped at the top of turn one.

After ninety-seven Southern Nationals Series races, the tour moves to the sixth points race of 2015 on Tuesday Night July 28th at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Ga. for a 35-lap $3,500-to-win main event.

"the tour moves to the sixth points race of 2015 on Tuesday Night July 28th at Boyd’s Speedway"

So was the Modoc event the fifth points race of 2015? I'm not understanding how Roberts is not the points leader going into the final 3 events.

I think some one said they made modoc a non points race. That's why Vic hill and ogale wasn't there.

I only wish they had gone public with making the Modoc make-up non points. Hill Ogle, and Smith are the only ones I haven't seen recently. At the rainout the announcer said 23 of the 25 original entrants said they would return Monday. This just seems a little shady from a Series I've held in high regard. They ran the dash and skipped the consis.

Looks like to me if Modoc was supposed to be a points race on the night it rained out, why was it not a points race on Monday night?
