Jimmy Mars Looks for Second ‘North/South 100’ Title this Weekend at Florence

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Mars Racing invaded the renowned Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin from July 30-August 1 for the 28th edition of the ‘USA Nationals.’ The three-day extravaganza kicked off on Thursday evening with a $6,000 to win World of Outlaws Late Model Series special. Jimmy Mars clicked off the sixth fastest lap in Group B during time trials prior to grabbing the third and final transfer spot through his heat race. After rolling off from the outside of the ninth row in the 40-lap main event, Jimmy was able to work his way past six competitors on his way to a twelfth place effort.

On Friday night at CLS, Jimmy timed in twelfth quickest in Group B during WOOLMS qualifying and later placed fourth in his loaded heat race. Following a fourth place effort in Saturday’s B-Main, Jimmy won the Last Chance Qualifier to advance into the 100-lap headliner. The Menomonie, Wisconsin ace then started from the outside of the eleventh row in the $50,000 to win ‘USA Nationals,’ but unfortunately retired after only 48 circuits and settled for a twenty-first place performance. Jimmy and his #28 team will jump right back into dirt-slinging action this upcoming weekend (August 7-8) at the venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky. The 33rd Annual ‘North/South 100’ will take place this weekend at the undersized 1/2-mile speedplant and another whopping $50,000 top prize will be on the line. Double Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series heat races will be held on Friday night at the Cincinnati-area oval, while pole dashes, consolation events, and the 100-lap ‘North/South 100’ will take center stage on Saturday evening. Jimmy was the 2009 victor of the ‘North/South 100’ and will be looking for his second race title this weekend. Additional information can be viewed by pointing your web browser to www.lucasdirt.com.
