Jerry Duncan Ford $2,000 To Win Gus Chilton Memorial-Hall Of Fame - Sunday, Sept. 6th

For Immediate Release

Wartburg, TN - August 31st, 2015 - Wartburg Speedway will come to life in a big way on Sunday, September 6th, 2015. The speedway will honor its founding father Gus Chilton who passed away earlier this year at the age of 88. Chilton was a well-known business man in Wartburg, mostly known for Chilton Tractor and was a local mail carrier for many years in Wartburg before building Wartburg Speedway in the 1960s.

In addition to honoring Gus Chilton the track will also introduce what it’s calling the Sandra Stout Hall Of Fame which will feature old race cars from days gone by, racing memorabilia like trophies, helmets, photos, etc. Sandra was a longtime photographer and newspaper columnist that recorded a tremendous amount of history about the speedway. Sandra passed away in 2011 at the age of 62.“I had the honor of working for Gus for many years and still use many of his philosophies today,” stated Wartburg Speedway Race Director Brad Byrd. “I also worked alongside Sandra for many years, and we had several conversations about one day creating a hall of fame that honored the legends of Wartburg Speedway and I can’t think of a better name for the Hall of Fame than to name it for Sandra.”

Jerry Duncan Ford of Harriman, TN is title sponsor of the event. "We have been involved with the Wartburg Speedway now for several years and are proud to sponsor this very special event. It’s our way of giving back to the racing community" stated Jerry Duncan Ford Sales Manager Keith Adcck. "Obviously without Gus Chilton there probably wouldn't even be a Wartburg Speedway and we are looking forward to the memorial race.”

The Hall of Fame festivities will take place in the grandstand area on Sunday, September 6th between 4pm and 6pm or so. All Wartburg Speedway past champions will be admitted in the grandstands for free that night and there will also be a plaque presentation during intermission for the Gus Chilton and Sandra Stout families.

In addition to the hall of fame ceremony there will be a full slate of racing action including the main event the Jerry Duncan Ford Gus Chilton Memorial $2,000 to win for Wartburg Late Models, a $500 to win UMP Open Wheel feature, a $400 to win Sportsman feature and the Pony & Thunder divisions will also be competing that night for $300 to win features.

Anyone with old race cars, racing suits, helmets, photos and any racing memorabilia are asked to contact Brad Byrd or Mike Kittrell to arrange delivery of the items which will be returned to the owners after the September 6th event.

More details with regards to purse structures, admission prices and more will be forthcoming over the next several days leading up to the event on Sunday, September 6th.
