Default Double adjustable shock on lift bar

I understand the effects of adjusting rebound on the lift bar, but what does more or less compression on the lift bar do in different track conditions. I found that my shock was bad and used a spare canister shock and thought there might be an advantage to adjusting it if I knew how. Thanks in advance

More or less compression effects how soon the car hooks up under accel. More comp hooks later, less hooks up sooner, but only in a certain range of dampening. If you get too stiff it may never hookup, get to soft and it won't stay hooked up or will hook suddenly and then let go. Saw this once years ago when a friend put a dummy shock on 5th arm, car would spin and hook, spin and hook all the way to flag stand before finally getting grip. Hope this helps.
