Jason Hughes Wins at Chateau; Takes USMTS Hunt Point Lead

Westville, Oklahoma (09/08/15) – Jason Hughes claimed his third win of the 2015 Hunt for the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Casey’s Cup in his #12 Red Tail Tackle/Hughes Chassis/ Mullins Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified over the holiday weekend. In doing so he also assumed control of the top spot in the standings.

Jason Hughes returned to action on Wednesday by visiting Hamilton County Speedway (Webster City, Iowa) for the next round of the Hunt for the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Casey’s Cup. Drawing twenty-two Open Wheel Modifieds, Jason cruised to a heat race win. Starting in 8th for the feature event, Hughes captured a 5th place finish behind Jesse Sobbing, Johnny Scott, Dan Ebert, and Cory Crapser.

The following night brought Hughes to Fairmont Raceway (Fairmont, Minnesota) to compete in the tenth night of action in the Hunt for the Casey’s Cup. Bagging another heat race win in a solid field of thirty entries, Jason transferred into the feature with a 7th place starting position. Competing for a $3,000 payday, Hughes landed a runner-up finish to Jason Krohn with Jason Cummings, Jesse Sobbing, and Rodney Sanders rounding out the top five.

With thirty-three Open Wheel Modifieds signed in for battle on Friday night at Chateau Raceway (Lansing, Minnesota), Jason Hughes scored a heat race win, transferring him into the Hunt for the Casey’s Cup feature event. Coming from the 4th starting spot, Hughes bagged his 8th victory on the season. Capturing a $3,000 payday, Stormy Scott, Ryan Gustin, Daniel Hilsabeck, and Jason Cummins trailed Hughes to the finish line.

On Saturday night Jason made the trip to Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) for night #12 of the Hunt for the Casey’s Cup. Gaining three spots in his heat race, Jason scored a runner-up finish to Ben Kates. With a pole position starting spot for the feature, Jason led early before slipping to a 3rd place outing behind race winner, Jason Krohn, and Zack VanderBeek with Dereck Ramirez and Joe Duvall completing the top five.

Wrapping up the busy five-day stint in the USMTS, Jason Hughes headed to Cresco Speedway (Cresco, Iowa) on Sunday night. Logging a 2nd place finish in his heat, Hughes earned the 4th starting spot for the 35-lap feature. Battling for another $3,500 in the Casey’s General Stores A-Main, Hughes bagged a runner-up finish to Rodney Sanders with Casey Arneson, Jesse Sobbing, and Ryan Gustin trailing them to the finish line.

“The ball is definitely in our court now, and if we just perform our best each night, then we’ll have a good chance to win our second championship,” said Hughes. “Rodney (Sanders) had some bad luck there, and we have to do everything we can at the Fall Jamboree to make sure we don’t experience our own bad luck.”
