On Saturday, September 19th, Lancaster Motor Speedway will hold a memorial race in honor of Mr. Barry Rowell, who passed away suddenly on January 17th of this year at the age of 52. Born September 19th, 1962, the race date is significant in that it is being held on what would’ve been his 53rd birthday.
Barry was a friend to many and loved by all. A native North Carolinian, he was born in Wayne County and was a graduate of Parkwood High School. He was a long-standing member of Corinth Baptist Church and an exemplary Sergeant with the NC Wildlife Resource Commission for over nineteen years.
Anyone that knew Barry knew three things: he loved the outdoors, dirt track racing and most importantly, his family. Being the avid hunter, fisherman and over-all outdoorsman that he was may have led him to his chosen career, but it was his love for his family that led him to the dirt track.
It began back in 2011, when Barry would accompany his daughter, Hollie, and son-in-law, Manley, to Lancaster Motor Speedway to watch the races. Intrigued by the crate late models, he eventually purchased one and RC Racing was born. Proudly displaying his daughters’ birthdate for their car number and with his son-in-law manning the wheel, the RC Racing family fast became a member of the Speedway community.
As many know, racing is an expensive hobby, but to Barry, spending quality time with his family was priceless. Weeknights spent with his son-in-law working on the race car, weekends spent at the race track rooting for #308 with his daughter and granddaughter, Izabelle; these are memories his family will treasure forever.
Come join the Speedway in honoring one of their own on Saturday, September 19th and cheer on RC Racings’ #308 as it leads the pace lap in Barry’s memory.
    Bring the family…Barry would’ve.
