CARTERSVILLE, GA – The 27th and final week of the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season is upon us, and there is still a lot to be decided in the third through tenth point fund-paying spots in the National standings. There are five races on the Week 27 schedule of events with three races on Friday night and two races on Saturday night.

It all begins on Friday night with races scheduled for Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, and Salina Speedway in Salina, KS. Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 27 races are scheduled for Camden Speedway in Camden, TN and a $1,000-to-win race at Magnolia Motor Speedway.

The top two spots in the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings have been decided with Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS the $10,000 National Champion with a perfect 14 week total of 700 points, and Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS the National Championship Runner-Up for the third year in a row with a best 14 week total of 694 points.

Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL and Robbie Starnes of Livingston, TX are tied for the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings, each with a best 14 week total of 689 points. Both drivers will have to travel away from their respective home tracks to try and net points. Skinner will be trying to net on a 47, and Starnes will be trying to net on a 48.

Skinner has the tie-breaker advantage going into the final week of the season with six 50-point wins for the 14-year-old Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series point leader to four 50-point wins for Starnes, the veteran who finished second in the 1999 Dream 100 at Eldora Speedway before Skinner was born!

The 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS is fifth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 685 points. Daspit has an opportunity to finish third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings by netting on a 45 in Week 27 competition. Daspit should be at his home track, Hattiesburg Speedway.

Greg Fore of Greenville, MS is sixth with a best 14 week total of 684 points. Fore has an opportunity to move up to the fifth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings, as he will be trying to net on a 47 in the final week of the 2015 season. Fore traveled to Texas last week, and he will have to hit the road again this weekend to try and net points.

Kevin Sitton of Baytown, TX has been a driver on the move in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings in the last couple of weeks. Last week Sitton took his ninth win of the season at his home track, Battleground Race Park in Highlands, TX in his 14th and final week to earn full points. That vaulted him from 17th to seventh in the standings with 677.

Sitton will now have to hit the road in the final week of the season in an effort to net on a 41 and an opportunity to move up to fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings, as Battleground Race Park will not be running the NeSmith Late Models this week.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is eighth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 675 points. Lee will be at his home track Hattiesburg Speedway on Friday night trying to net on a 47, and a chance to move up to the seventh spot in the point standings in the final week of the season.

The NeSmith Panhandle Challenge Series point leader Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL is locked into the ninth spot in the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 669 points. A 50-point win for Joiner in the final week of the season would net him four points and bring his season total to 673 points.

Cole Daffron of Pell City, AL will be fighting for the tenth and final points fund-paying spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings in the final week of the season, and he’ll have to do it on the road, away from his home track, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, Daffron has a best 14 week total of 657 points on the hot seat of the tenth spot.

Daffron, a 17-year-old driver who is second in the Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series point standings, will be trying to net on a 45, which means he needs a top five finish in the final week of the season to net any points. There are two drivers outside the Top 10 that have an opportunity to race their way into the Top 10 in the final week of the season.

Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS has spent most of the season in the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings before being knocked out by Sitton last week. Jordan is 11th with a best 14 week total of 653 points. Jordan will have to hit the road this weekend in an effort to net on a 41. A 50-point win by Jordan could put him back in the Top 10 with 662 points.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series “coming from out of nowhere” driver for 2015 season could be Adam Cummings of Odenville, AL. He finished second last week at his home track, Talladega Short Track; to move up to the 17th position in the standings with 618 points, and Cummings still has one more week to earn full points.

If Cummings finishes sixth or better in the final week of the 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season, he will have a 14 week total of 663 points and clinch the tenth and final points fund paying spot in the standings.

Cummings would also earn a seat at the NeSmith Racing Annual Awards Banquet on January 23 at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame and Thunder Road Museum in Dawsonville, GA, as the Top 10 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series drivers will also be honored.

The 2015 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Series Championship is up for grabs in the 27th and final week of the season, as there is a tie for the point lead, and the third-place manufacturer is one win behind them.

Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV and four-time Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR are tied for lead in the standings with 14 wins apiece. Three-time Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL is third with 13 wins.

CVR Race Cars of Lenoir City, TN is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Challenge with seven wins and Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is still looking for their first win of the season.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series will compete against each other nationally using a points system that will count their best 14 weekly point totals over a 27-week season from March 23 through September 27. The $20,000 National point fund will pay $10,000 to the National Champion and pay back to the Top 10 drivers in the final point standings.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competitors have the option of two different economical Chevrolet Performance Circle Track Engines to compete with. The aluminum-head 400 horsepower 604 engine costs $5,795 and the steel-head 350 horsepower Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine with a 100-pound weight break costs $3,495.
