What I found most interesting about listening to his interviews was him describing how they actually got some of the classic sounds on some of those records by using really cheap guitars and amps and cranking them up, or using the neck pickups on cheap guitars with the treble boost cut and stuff like that. Kind of opened my eyes that you don't always need high dollar stuff to make great music, just use what you have and be original with it.
Not the greatest musician, but a great songwriter and someone who really did take what he had and make the most of it. Happy Birthday Joe Walsh!
