Ponderosa Speedway Announces Exciting 2016 Racing Schedule

Junction City, KY- January 4, 2016- Ponderosa Speedway track promoter Jerry Denson is pleased to announce an exciting schedule of events of racing competition at the 3/8 mile D-shaped red clay better known as “Kentucky’s Baddest Bullring”.

There will be an open practice day at the track on Sunday afternoon March 20 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., while the track will kick off its 44th season of racing competition on Friday March 25. There will be five weekly divisions of racing competition at the track in 2016 and they will include Pro Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks, Four Cylinders, and Mini-Cup/Cyclones. The Super Late Model division will compete at Ponderosa Speedway in 2016, but they will be on the racing card for special events only.

The Super Late Model division will make six appearances at the track during the 2016 racing season, capped off by the 26th Annual Fall Classic on Friday November 4 and Saturday November 5 as the Southern Nationals Bonus Series will again sanction the contest and the race will pay a track record $26,000 to win, with an open practice set for Thursday November 3. The World of Outlaws Late Model Series will return in 2016 as Ponderosa Speedway revives a former event held at the now-closed Barren County (KY) Speedway as the track will present the 24th edition of the Kentucky Klassic on Friday May 6, with the winner taking home $10,000. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will make its first-ever appearance at the track on Friday August 26 as the tour will sanction the 13th Annual John Bradshaw Memorial presented by Sweet Beans and Things, with that event paying $10,000 to win as well. The Ray Cook-promoted Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals will be at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday April 29, racing for $4,000 to win. The track is also set to host a pair of Ultimate Battle of the Bluegrass Series events, with those events being the 19th Annual Pete Abell Memorial on a special Saturday event on Saturday July 23 and the 15th Annual Hugh “Junebug” Rowland event will take place on Friday September 30. Both events will pay $3,000 to win. Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY was the 2015 Ponderosa Speedway Super Late Model track champion.

The Pro Late Model division will be the highlighted Late Model division at Ponderosa Speedway on a weekly basis. Special events for the division will include the inaugural Topless 40 event on Friday May 20 that will pay $1,500 to win. Pro Late Models will also be on the docket for extra money at the 26th Annual Fall Classic on Friday November 4 and Saturday November 5, racing for $2,600 to win. Other extra money special events for the division are planned and will be announced prior to the start of the season or during the race season. The Pro Late Model division will race for $1,000 to win and $100 to start at all regular show events. Zane Powell of Junction City, KY was the 2015 Ponderosa Speedway Pro Late Model track champion.

The Modified division will also be in competition at Ponderosa Speedway in 2016 and will race for $2,600 to win at the 26th Annual Fall Classic on Friday November 4 and Saturday November 5. Other extra money special events for the division are planned, with those being announced prior to the start of the season or as the season progresses. The Modified division will race for $800 to win and $100 to start at all regular show events. J.T. Ayers of New Haven, KY was the 2015 Ponderosa Speedway Modified track champion.

The Super Stock division will see some rule changes for the 2016 season, with changes to be announced shortly. The class will race for $2,000 to win at the 2nd Annual Bobby Carrier, Sr. event on Friday April 1. The Super Stocks will also be on the card for the 26th Annual Fall Classic on Friday November 4 and Saturday November 5, with the amount to win for that weekend to be announced. Other special events are also planned, with those being announced prior to the start of the season or as the season progresses. The Super Stock division will race for $500 to win and $75 to start at all regular show events. Glen Hounshell, Jr. of Mount Vernon, KY was the 2015 Ponderosa Speedway Super Stock track champion.

The Four Cylinder division is set to be on the racing program full-time in 2016 after debuting about halfway through the 2015 season. The division will be highlighted with the Four Cylinder Frenzy event on a special Saturday event on Saturday July 30, with the winner claiming $1,000 for their efforts. The Four Cylinders will also be a part of the 26th Annual Fall Classic on Friday November 4 and Saturday November 5, with money amounts to be announced for that event. The Four Cylinder division will race for $300 to win and $50 to start at all regular show events. Freddy Breeden of Somerset, KY was the 2015 Ponderosa Speedway Four Cylinder track champion.

The Mini-Cup/Cyclone division again returns to the racing docket for their second season of action in 2016. The class will be highlighted with a pair of $500 to win at the track, with Mini-Cup/Cyclone Madness I taking place on Friday August 5 and Mini-Cup Madness II taking place on Friday October 7. The Mini-Cup/Cyclone division will race for $100 to win and $40 to start at all regular show events. Jason Bell of London, KY was the 2015 Ponderosa Speedway Mini-Cup/Cyclone track champion.
