Jeep Van Wormer Flexes Muscle in Season Opener at Atomic Speedway

(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) Jeep Van Wormer and the Iron Motorsports team kicked off their 2016 campaign on Friday evening, March 18 at Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presided over the 'Buckeye Spring 50' at the Chillicothe area facility and the $10,000 to win showdown drew a stellar fifty car field. Aboard a brand-new Brucebilt racecar from car builder Bruce Nunnally in Knoxville, Tennessee, Jeep clicked off the thirteenth quickest time in Group A during qualifying and later finished second in heat race action.

The Pinconning, Michigan ace then started the 50-lap headliner from the inside of the fourth row and ran as high as sixth during the caution-free affair. At the checkers, Jeep found himself in the seventh finishing position behind only winner Jonathan Davenport, Brian Shirley, Jimmy Owens, Mike Marlar, Darrell Lanigan, and Dustin Linville. Saturday's scheduled stop to the legendary Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Indiana was then nixed by Mother Nature, as the annual running of the 'Indiana Icebreaker' was postponed due to inclement weather to April 9. Complete results from Friday's 'Buckeye Spring 50' season opener can be accessed by clicking on www.lucasdirt.com.

“I am really excited about this new Brucebilt car and it has me pretty pumped up about our 2016 season,” quoted Van Wormer this week via telephone. “It flashed a lot of speed in our season opener at Atomic and I think we have something to work with this year. We are going to get out and race a little bit more than in year’s past, especially on that American Ethanol Late Model Tour. I’m looking forward to supporting that deal and all of the great dirt tracks we have up here in Michigan!”

Jeep and his #55 team are scheduled to sit idle over the upcoming March 25-26 weekend. The next two races on their schedule at this point is the American Late Model Series (ALMS) doubleheader on April 15-16 at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio and Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Both weekend shows in the Buckeye State are scheduled to pay $2,000 to the victor.
