CARTERSVILLE, GA – The opening week of the 2016 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season opens this weekend with four races at four tracks in four different states on the schedule of events. The start of a new season puts all drivers on a level playing field with a clean slate. Week 1 action will be the first of 27 in the 2016 season.

Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS will open the 2016 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model competition on Friday night. The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is expected to be in the house at his home track.

Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series events are scheduled for Battleground Race Park in Highlands, TX, LA 36 Speedway in Lacombe, LA (formerly known as St. Tammany Raceway), and Southern Raceway in Milton, FL.

The Southern Raceway event will also be the 2016 season opener for the NeSmith Panhandle Challenge Series, a 17-race series run in conjunction with the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series that also has its own point fund. NeSmith Panhandle Challenge Series events will also be contested at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL and Northwest Florida Speedway in Baker, FL in 2016. Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL is the NeSmith Panhandle Challenge Series Champion.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series will compete against each other nationally using a points system that will count their best 14 weekly point totals over a 27-week season that runs through September 25. The $20,000 National point fund will pay $10,000 to the National Champion and pay back to the Top 10 drivers in the final point standings.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competitors have the option of two different economical Chevrolet Performance Circle Track Engines to compete with. The aluminum-head 400 horsepower 604 engine costs $5,795 and the steel-head 350 horsepower Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine with a 100-pound weight break costs $3,495.
