Smoky Mountain Speedway Hosts the ULTIMATE Spring Shootout April 2nd

Maryville, Tennessee (March 28, 2016) – Smoky Mountain Speedway, which has become known as Americas Special Event Super Late Model Track, is set to host its 2nd Super Late Model special of the 2016 season this Saturday night, April 2nd. The half mile oval located in Maryville will welcome the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series and the ULTIMATE Battle of the Bluegrass Series as they go head to head in a co-sanctioned $5000 to win feature event. The ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series has visited Smoky Mountain several times over the last few years, Saturday will mark the first appearance of the ULTIMATE Battle of the Bluegrass Series. In fact Smoky Mountain will host the first-ever Battle of the Bluegrass event under the ULTIMATE banner.

“Smoky Mountain is one of our anchor tracks. They have been on our schedule the last four years and we have had some very successful events there in that time. So when we relaunched the Battle of the Bluegrass, we knew that as close as it is to the new region that we wanted to include Smoky Mountain on that schedule too. Smoky Mountain has a great fan base and a lot of great drivers around their area. So when we go there and bring our guys and mix them in with those local and regional guys, it is always a great show. And now add to that the guys from the Battle of the Bluegrass Region and it should be really phenomenal.” said ULTIMATE Series Founder and Owner Stan Lester.

Among the drivers expected to attend are defending event winner Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tennessee. Weaver has been all but unstoppable at Smoky Mountain in ULTIMATE Series competition, having won the last 3 series events at the historic facility dating back to July of 2014. In fact Weaver also scored 2015 Smoky Mountain victories with the Lucas Oil Late Model Series and the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals. However this weekend Weaver will be forced to fend off the likes of other 2105 Smoky Mountain winners Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Georgia and Chris Ferguson of Mt. Holly, North Carolina.

Battle of the Bluegrass contenders including Dustin Linville of Bryantsville, Kentucky; Derek Fisher of Olympia, Kentucky; Bedford, Indiana’s Greg Johnson and Tommy Bailey of Corbin, Kentucky are expected to be on hand. And along with those drivers other perennial favorites like Brasstown, North Carolina’s Ray Cook; Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, Tennessee; Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Georgia; Skip Arp of Georgetown, Tennessee; Vic Hill or Mosheim, Tennessee and Jason Welshan of Maryville, Tennessee should be in action.
