Jimmy Mars Runner-Up in MLRA Spring Nationals Opener; Iowa Double-Dip Next

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars and the Mars Racing team returned to dirt-slinging competition for the first time since they left Arizona in January over the April 8-9 weekend at the immaculate Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. The Lucas Oil MLRA Series presided over the two-day 'MLRA Spring Nationals,' which kicked off on Friday night with a $2,000 to win shootout. Jimmy ran second in his heat race and later lined up starting fifth on the grid in the 30-lap main event. During the contest, Jimmy quickly vaulted up to second and finished an impressive runner-up behind only winner Billy Moyer.

On Saturday evening at Wheatland, a $5,000 top prize was on the line in the 'MLRA Spring Nationals' finale. Jimmy unfortunately could not overcome a poor draw, as he finished ninth in his heat race and sixth in his B-Main. The Menomonie, Wisconsin star was unable to make the start in the 45-lap headliner, which was won by Brian Shirley. Full results from both weekend battles in the Show-Me State can be viewed online at www.mlraracing.com.

The #28 team will jump right back into action this upcoming weekend (April 15-16) in two special events in the Hawkeye State of Iowa. The MARS DIRTcar Series and Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series will sanction a $5,000 to win program on Friday evening at Davenport Speedway in Davenport, Iowa and the ‘Slocum 50’ on Saturday night at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa. A $10,555 winner’s check will once again be up for grabs in the annual show, which honors the late Iowa driver Brent Slocum.
