MERIDIAN, MS – Michael Page of Douglasville, GA won the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series 50-lap main event on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park, but the victory is unofficial until series officials receive verification from Chevrolet Performance this week on the valve springs in the Chevrolet Performance CT525 Racing Engine in Page’s T&T Trucking GRT.

The Engine Rules of the Chevy Super Series state that any replacement parts on the CT525 Engine must be the specified Chevrolet Performance replacement parts for that engine. The appearance of the valve springs in Page’s engine was unfamiliar to series officials as specified Chevrolet Performance CT525 replacement parts.

Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series officials will pass that appearance on to Chevrolet Performance engineers in Detroit for verification. Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series officials have held first-place money and awards until the report on the valve springs come back from Chevrolet Performance, and the final results of the race can be made official.

A pair of former Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series National Champions, 2013 titlist William Thomas of Phenix City, AL in the Austin Trucking GRT and the defending and two-time Champion Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN, finished second and third respectively. With 15 laps to go, the top three finishers were running third, fourth and eighth.

A lap 35 restart saw Tyler Crowder of Lamont, FL leading the race in the Crowder Excavating Special, and Mike Boland of Cuba, AL running second in the Boland Performance Trak-Star. Both drivers had advanced to the top two positions using the bottom groove of Whynot Motorsports Park. Crowder took the lead from the outside running Page on lap ten.

When the green flag came out, both Crowder and Boland planted their race cars to inside hub of the race track, while Page, Thomas and Johnson put their machines on the top shelf riding the cushion. Page sailed around the outside of Crowder to take the lead on lap 40, and Thomas drove around the outside of Crowder on lap 42 to take the second spot.

Johnson was quick to get into the top five after the restart. The Chattanooga Flash passed Boland for fourth on lap 44, and then got by Crowder on lap 45 for third. Crowder hung on to finish fourth, while Boland completely wore out his tires, and pulled to the infield on lap 47.

Scott Dedwylder of Vossburg, MS started 20th in the Scott’s Body Works and Towing Special and finished fifth, and the sixth spot went to Chase Washington of Houlka, MS in the 45 Race Shop Special. Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL finished seventh in the Chase Services Special, and Ross Martin of Talladega, AL drove the Magnolia Place Special from the 24th starting spot to finish eighth.

Jake Knowles of Rome, GA was ninth in the Coosa Heating and Cooling Rocket and Tim Busha of Boaz, AL rounded out the top ten in the Kilpatrick Racing GRT. Crowder takes over the point lead with a seven-point advantage over Knowles, while Busha is third in the points chase, 12 points behind Knowles and two points ahead of Johnson in fourth.

In preliminary action, Page was also the Fast Time Award Winner among the 27 entrants with a time of 12.943 seconds that came as the last qualifier on the last lap of time trails. The two ten-lap B-Main Races were won by J.R. Moseley of Columbus, GA in the Moseley Auto Repair Special and Washington.

The next two races for the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series will take place at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL on May 13 with a 30-lap $2,000-to-win race. The series will then travel to East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL on May 14 for the $3,000-to-win Annual Jimmy Thomas Memorial 50.
