Chilton Capture OMG Spring Nationals Spring Showdown Victory at Ponderosa Speedway

Junction City, KY (April 29, 2016)- The Ray Cook promoted Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals presented by Schaeffer Oil would visit Ponderosa Speedway on Friday evening and Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY would earn his first series win with the tour and a $4,000 payday. Other feature winners for the event included John Gill of Mitchell, IN in Pro Late Models, Victor Lee of Danville, KY in Modifieds, Brandon Hutchinson of Hi Hat, KY in the KDRA Super Stocks, and Dylan Stevens of Morehead, KY in Four Cylinders.

Michael Chilton would take the lead at the start of the 40 lap Super Late Model main event, only to see Cody Mahoney take the lead on lap 3 as Jason Jameson would pressure Mahoney for second. Chris Combs would spin and draw a caution on lap 6 and third place Jameson would pit with a flat right rear tire and return. The restart would see Chilton and Mahoney continue to mix it up for the lead, while Eddie Carrier, Jr. would take third from Donald McIntosh. This pair would trade the third spot back and forth before Carrier, Jr. controlled the battle on lap 14. Meanwhile, Jameson was charging back through the field and Chilton would retake the lead with a turn four pass on lap 17. A caution one lap later would the field and once action resumed, Jameson would really turn the heat up on his run back to the front as he would go four wide with three other drivers in turn three and go from seventh to fourth position in turns three and four, as Mahoney started to fade and would slow with mechanical issues on the track on lap 21. One final caution for debris on lap 25 and the restart would see Carrier, Jr. battle Chilton for the lead, but Chilton would maintain the top spot. Jameson would pick off McIntosh for third on lap 33 and would slip past Carrier, Jr. for second on lap 37, but the night would belong to Chilton as he would see the checkered flag first in his Caton Industrial Painting/Chilton’s Lawn Maintenance/Superior Drywall sponsored #97 Rocket Chassis, Bullock Race Engines powered mount. Jameson and Carrier, Jr. would complete the podium finishing positions, while McIntosh and Dustin Linville rounded out the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Greg Johnson, David Payne, Josh Rice, James Rice, and Joe Janowski. Twenty-nine entries would see Mahoney as top qualifier at 12.733 seconds, while Greg Johnson and James Rice were B-Main winners. Series provisional starting spots went to Johnny Wheeler and Austin Tunney.

John Gill would lead the entire 25 lap distance in the $1,000 to win Pro Late Model main event and capture the win in the Tony Roland owned Carbo-Tech sponsored #28. Todd Coffman would finish second, while Jake Henry would slip past Elliott Despain in the late going to take third, with Despain fourth, and Grant Garrison charging from the rear of the field after a flat tire to garner fifth. Completing the top ten would be Timmy Taylor, Mikah Reams, Chad Spradlin, Clayton Turner, and Brian Walters. Coffman would be the top qualifier and heat race wins would go to Gill and Wesley Brummett.

Victor Lee would dominate the 20 lap Modified main event and take the checkered flag for his efforts in the Kerry Trowbridge owned Automotive Specialities/Tri County Auto and Oil/Brunner and Son Lawn Maintenance sponsored #6 Diamond Race Car, Pro Power Race Engines entry. The remainder of the finishing order behind Lee would be Dennis Roberson, Blake Brown, P.J. Simpson, Josh Davis, Corey Denny, and Joseph Husband, as several drivers elected not to start the main event. Lee and Roberson were the division’s heat race winners.

Brandon Hutchinson would continue his early season hot streak around the region as he parked the Billy Hutchinson owned Hutchinson Muffler and Brake sponsored #A85 Chevy Monte Carlo in victory lane. The remainder of the top five from this feature contest would be Eddie Stewart, Terry Cheeks, Danny Blackwell, and Sarah Patrick. Hutchinson also won the heat race event.

The Four Cylinder division would only run a feature event and Dylan would start last but finish first to take the win in the Eagle Finance sponsored #7x Ford Mustang. Shane Irvin, William Collett, and Charles Burton would complete the finishing order, as Jamison Gipson and Keith Gipson had mechanical issues on the pace lap and were not able to start.
