Jason Hughes Surges to Salina USMTS Triumph for Win #7

Westville, Oklahoma (05/23/16) – Jason Hughes found himself in victory lane again with the United States Modified Touring Series on Saturday night in his West Siloam Pawn #12 Hughes/Mullins Racing Engine Modified as he claimed the $3,000 victory at Salina Highbanks Speedway.

Jason Hughes traveled to Outlaw Motor Speedway (Oktaha, Oklahoma) on Friday night for the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) sanctioned MSD Central Region event. Following some problems in his heat race, Jason stormed forward ten positions in the B-Main, logging an 8th-place finish, which left him just short of transferring to the finale. Utilizing a provisional to start the $3,000-to-win A-Main, Hughes came from the 27th-starting spot to post an impressive 6th- place finish in the 37-lap affair.

Saturday night proved to be a much better outing for Jason at Salina Highbanks Speedway (Pryor Creek, Oklahoma) as he started the night off with a heat race victory. Earning the 8th-starting spot for the feature, Hughes worked his way into the lead by lap-17. Holding off the field for the remaining 20 laps, Jason Hughes collected a $3,000 payday and his seventh win of the year. Rodney Sanders, Ryan Gustin, Jesse Sobbing, and Jeremy Payne rounded out the top five.

“Lapped traffic was pretty chaotic, but we had a heck of a race car,” the defending USMTS national champion commented. “I don’t think anybody could roll through the middle like we could, so when you’ve got a car that’s that good, it makes it a whole lot more comfortable.”

Jason continues to lead the USMTS point standings with the MSD Central Region. Complete results from these events can be found at www.USMTS.com .

Jason Hughes is locked and loaded for a busy Memorial Day weekend, May 25-29, with five events scheduled with the USMTS. The swing starts on Wednesday, May 25 at Crawford County Speedway (Denison, Iowa) before moving onto Mason City Motor Speedway (Mason City, Iowa) and Chateau Raceway (Lansing, Minnesota) on Thursday and Friday. Saturday will take the team to Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) before wrapping up the holiday weekend on Sunday at Upper Iowa Speedway (Decorah, Iowa).
