Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ 100 Moves to September

Columbus, Mississippi (05/25/16) – The 2016 edition of the Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ 100 at Magnolia Motor Speedway is moving from early October to September 22-24.

“For whatever reason it just seems like this year that everybody in the Dirt Late Model world wants to have a big show the weekend of October 7-8, so we decided to take the show to a new weekend,” said Magnolia Motor Speedway promoter, Johnny Stokes. “The September 22-24 weekend looks much more friendly for racers and fans, especially in the South where there a ton of races that weekend. Plus the Mississippi State University football team will be playing on the road that weekend, so that frees up the hotels in the area that weekend, which is always a big challenge.”

The mega event, which is headlined by a $20,000-to-win/$1,200-to-start event for Super Late Models, will now open on Thursday, September 22 with an open practice session. Friday evening will find qualifying and heat races contested before Saturday night plays host to B-Mains and the 100 lap finale atop the “Black Ice” at the state-of-the-art, 3/8-mile oval. The purse for the Super Late Model portion of the event alone exceeds $70,000.
Also taking center stage throughout the weekend at the event will be the Mississippi Street Stock Series battling for $2,000-to-win, the NeSmith Weekly Late Models racing for $3,000-to-win, and Factory Stocks will also race on Saturday night.

More details will be released in the coming weeks.

With the move of the Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ 100, there’s also been a move of the 2nd Annual Fall 40 Street Stock Championship. The event originally slated for September 22-24 at Magnolia Motor Speedway will now be held October 6-8.

“I honestly think that moving the 2nd Annual Fall 40 Street Stock Championship to October will help that event as several tracks will be finished racing for the year by then,” noted Stokes. “That event has become one of my favorite races because there’s so much parity in the Street Stock class and the racing is just awesome. I hope fans will make plans to attend it as well.”

The 2nd Annual Fall 40 Street Stock Championship includes a $5,000-to-win/$400-to-start finale for the Street Stock division.

This Sunday, May 29 Magnolia Motor Speedway will host a program that features the NeSmith Late Model National Touring Series battling for $2,000-To-Win PLUS the RockAuto.Com Super Late Models, NeSmith Street Stocks, 602 Late Model Stocks and Factory Stocks will be action as well.

On Sunday, May 29 the pit gate opens at 3pm with the grandstand gates opening at 5pm. The driver’s meeting is slated for 6:30pm with racing action at 7:30pm. Grandstand Admission is $15.00 for Adults.
