    Default Recently purchased SBC

    I bought a used 350 with double humps and a fairly large cam, I want to put a set of smog heads on it. What are some possible issues I would run in to if I don't change the camshaft. It is supposed to be a solid lift cam on hydraulic lifters

    Well.... If you are bolting on a stock set of heads, you could have valve spring coil bind issues and retainer to guide clearance issues at higher lifts. Normally you would install longer valves and springs that would be able to accommodate for the higher lifts. If you are changing the valves and springs to accommodate the higher lifts, then you need to make sure that your open valve pressure does not exceed what the hydraulic lifter can handle before bleeding off. These are the first things that come to mind.

    comp springs, ferrea valves, vortec retainers. Retainer to guide clearance maybe an issue I didn't think about
