Jason Hughes Goes Two-for-Three in Weekend USMTS Action

Westville, Oklahoma (06/22/16) – Jason Hughes found himself in victory lane twice over the weekend with the United States Modified Touring Series in his West Siloam Pawn #12 Hughes/Mullins Racing Engine Modified.

Following two separate rainouts, the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) competitors headed to KRA Speedway (Willmar, Minnesota) on Thursday for the RealTruck.com Northern Region event. Capitalizing off his front-row-starting spot in his heat, Hughes scored a heat race win, setting him up with the 8th-starting spot for the $3,000-to-win A-Main. Working his way into the lead by lap 28, Jason led the remaining fourteen circuits to pick up his eighth win of the season over Rodney Sanders, Tim Johnson, Jason Thoennes, and Jacob Bleess.

On Friday night forty-two entries signed in at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin) for the opening round of the 18th Annual Masters. Cruising to a heat race win from the pole position, Jason started 7th on the grid for the feature. Racing into the top spot on lap-26, Hughes went on to capture his second straight win and ninth of the season with Lucas Schott, Cade Dillard, Dan Ebert, and Mason Big Eagle trailing him to the checkers. Jason pocketed a $3,000 payday for his triumph in the 42-lap affair.

For the final night of the 18th Annual Masters, Hughes finished 9th in his heat race, which resulted in him starting 16th in the B-Main. Failing to reach a transfer spot in the B-Main, Jason utilized a provisional to start the $3,000-to-win feature. Improving thirteen positions in the 42-lapper, Jason Hughes reeled in a 12th-place outing.

“Saturday was a little bit of a struggle, but overall it was another great weekend,” said Hughes. “We’re really having a great season so far and hopefully it continues to roll this way as we get set for some big shows.”

Jason remains leading all three USMTS regions point standings. Complete results from these events can be found at www.USMTS.com .

Hughes now turns his attention to this weekend’s inaugural Summersota Modified Nationals at I-94 Speedway (Fergus Falls, Minnesota). The event opens on Wednesday with an open practice session. Thursday and Friday will see double heat races contested each night, while Saturday’s finale will be highlighted by a $15,000-to-win/$1,500-to-start feature.
