Miles Chevrolet Presenting Fireman's Ball & Sportsman Topless 40 At Macon Speedway Six Divisions Of Racing Set For Action Miles Chevrolet will be presenting the annual Fireman's Ball and Sportsman Topless 40 this coming Saturday, July 11 at Macon IL Speedway. Six divisions of racing entertainment will be on hand for the special night that honors central Illinois fireman by providing them and their family and friends $5 admission to the grandstands. The night's special event is the Topless 40, a race which will see the Sportsman division run extra laps, for extra money, and all while racing without the roof of the car. It's a popular event that gives the fans a fun look inside the driver compartment of each car. In 2015, Lovington, IL driver Jeremy Nichols took the victory and will be one of the favorites to do the same this year. Nichols has won three Sportsman features this season, while Monticello, IL driver, Timmy (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word), has won the other two. Danny Smith, Tom Graham, Scott Landers, and Tim Bedinger are others expected to compete up front. A full night's racing action will be on tap as the UMP Pro Late Models will be back in action after a side-by-side thriller took place last Saturday night between the brothers' Taylor, Matt and Guy. Guy ran the low lane with Matt in the outside lane for just about the whole race, with Guy making the final pass in turn four on the final lap. It was Guy's third win of the year, tying him with Matt for the most in the division this season. Roben Huffman, Jake Little, and Cody Maguire are others that are in the top five in standings. The Billingsley Towing UMP Modifieds put on an outstanding feature last week, as well. it was Summit National winner, Rodney Standerfer, leading for much of the event, with Curt Rhodes hounding him high and low. Rhodes was in the process of making the lead pass when a caution reverted scoring back and kept Standerfer out front. Back to green, Standerfer started protecting the bottom, leaving Rhodes the outside groove. After some hard work and tight racing, Rhodes squeezed by and raced to the front of the pack for the impressive feature win. The point battle is tight, with Dave Crawley, Jr. leading by just eight over Rhodes, while Standerfer, Zach Rhodes, and Jeff Graham round out the top five. In the B-Mod class, Tim Han(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) has been dominant, claiming seven wins in seven starts. The last two have been a little tougher, receiving more of a challenge from his close competition. On Thursday, it was Denny Tribout making it a close battle, while Saturday's action saw Brett Page keep Han(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) on his toes. Ryan Timmons, Tom Riech, Tim Riech, and Eric Brackett are top five point competitors. Decatur, IL driver Nick Justice continued his strong season, winning his fifth feature of the year this past Saturday. He'll be looking for win number six and to extend his point lead this coming Saturday over Kyle Waters, Brian Dasenbrock, Dustin Reed, and Luke Force. Street Stock racing has been very good at the track, this season, with better average car counts and competitive racing. Rounding out the six division show will be the UMP Hornet class. Blue Mound, IL's Tony Reed won his second feature of the year, extending on his tight point lead over Jerad Matherly. Cook Crawford, Mike Gossett, and Ryan Cantrell are currently top five point contenders. Firemen, their families, and their friends will be gaining access to the grandstands for just $5 each this Saturday night, with their badge or coupons that were provided to area fire departments. Otherwise, adult admission to the grandstands is just $12 with kids 11 and under free. Pit gates will be opening at 4:00, grandstands at 4:00, competitor pill draw will end at 5:50, hotlaps will begin at 6:00, and racing will take the green at 7:00. Just to clarify, the Pro Late Model race at Macon on Saturday night is not a Big 10 race. Friday night's race at Lincoln Speedway is a Big 10 event. The next Macon Midwest Big Ten Series event comes up on Saturday, July 30.
