Southern Nationals Series Soars into Volunteer Speedway on Sunday July 17th

BULLS GAP, TN (July 14, 2016)—The Volunteer Speedway located in Bulls Gap, Tenn. is gearing up for another huge Super Late Model event on Sunday Night July 17th as the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series rolls into town for a $3,500-to-win show.

The Sunday Night special, as part of an 11-race journey for the Southern Nationals Series will mark the second points racing event that is sure to draw the best teams in the Southeast which will be racing for over $20,000 in prize money. This will be the first time since 2013 the summer tour has returned to Volunteer Speedway.

Event promoters Vic Hill, Ray Cook and Chris Tilley will be bringing the region’s best to do battle with the best of East-Tennessee in this must-see event. In addition to the Super Late Models, the Sportsman Late Models will be racing for $800-to-win and the Modified Streets will race for $500-to-win. Both local divisions will run under Volunteer Speedway rules. Of note to all race teams competing at Volunteer Speedway on July 17th, window nets and gloves are mandatory.

Drivers expected from the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series are: Tennessee drivers Stacy Boles, Shanon Buckingham, Vic Hill, Pierce McCarter and Robby Moses; Derek Ellis, Donald McIntosh, Casey Roberts and Austin Smith of Georgia; Chris Brown of Texas, Devin Gilpin of Indiana; Gavin Landers of Arkansas; Ricky Weiss of Canada and Craig Vosbergen of Western Australia. Other drivers, Billy Ogle Jr., Chad Ogle, Ivedent Lloyd Jr., Dennis Franklin, Mark Vineyard, Ellery Leake, Mark Douglas, Jordon Horton, Tommy Bailey, Ross White, Travis Greer and Gregg Satterlee are also expected for this event.

Previous Southern Nationals Series winners at Volunteer Speedway include: Jimmy Owens (2006 and 2007), Tommy Kerr (2008 and 2009), Jonathan Davenport (2010), Chris Madden (2011), Casey Roberts (2012) and Vic Hill (2013).

The Volunteer Speedway has hosted four special events for Super Late Models this season with Mike Marlar taking the $4,000 payday on April 15th with the Spring Nationals Series. On April 16th, Chris Madden took the $10,000 payday during the Spring Nationals Series-sanctioned 15th Annual Spring Thaw race. On June 11th, Chad Ogle captured the $4,000 payday during the Carolina Clash-sanctioned event and on July 1st, Ricky Weiss of Headingly, Manitoba, Canada took the $3,000 win during the Fourth Annual Scott Sexton Memorial sanctioned by the Iron-Man Mountain Championship tour.

On July 17th, the pit gates will open at 4:00 pm, the grandstands will open at 5:30 pm with the driver’s meeting scheduled for 6:45 pm and hot laps soon after. Adult general admission in the grandstands is $20.00 per person while youth (ages 7-12) are admitted for $5.00 and children six and under are free. Pit and backside tier parking is $35.00 per person regardless of age.
