I've been there many times. Watched Waltrip win some races and A J Foyt also.

Salem is one bad ass racetrack. I'm no fan of asphalt racing but Salem and Winchester are two places that I would make an exception for. ARCA is said to put on an awesome show at Salem.

They uses to have a Salem 500 for late models. Once they had a big wreck in hot laps and completely took out 150 feet of guard rail in turn three. They had to postpone the race.

Another time Ron Hutcherson turned over on the backstretch and slide 750 feet on his roof clear into turn three before stopping.

And then there was the time that Darrell Waltrip went over the guardrail in the backstretch and got stuck in a tree top.

Sometimes you just went home with nothing left but the steering wheel, lol

Speaking of Blackstown, they are sold on making it the blackest and dustiest track possible. Got a bad sinus headache today, but that doesn't matter. lol

Maybe the crowd is finally getting enough, it was much thinner last night.

Sounds like my neighbor back in his drinking days !! He said that at 02:00 a.m. he would go to bed with a 10 but at 10 a.m. he would wake up with a 2.

I went to I-55 several years ago and it was 102 degrees and so hot and humid that we were soaked. And those plastic chairback seats were like bake ovens lol.

Really a great designed race track, wish it was a couple hundred miles closer.
