Smoky Mountain Speedway Hosts Southern Nationals Series on Friday July 29th

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – July 21, 2016 – Smoky Mountain (Tenn.) Speedway will host another exciting Super Late Model special event on Friday Night July 29th as the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Old Man’s Garage will visit the track for the fifth time competing in the Food City-sponsored event.

In addition to the $5,300-to-win Super Late Model event, the Late Model Sportsman ($1,000-to-win) and Street Stock ($500-to-win) will also be on the racing card for Friday July 29th.

In four previous stops by the tour, Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn. claimed the 2012 series stop while Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C. took the big payday in 2013 and 2014. Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn. is the most recent series winner at Smoky Mountain as he went to victory in the 2015 event. Earlier this season, the sister tour of the Southern Nationals, the Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series visited Smoky Mountain Speedway for the Annual Tennessee Tipoff Classic with Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tenn. capturing the $15,000 payday.

Drivers competing on the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series include: Chris Brown of Texas, Donald McIntosh of Georgia, Gavin Landers of Arkansas, Craig Vosbergen of Australia, Ricky Weiss of Canada, Devin Gilpin of Indiana, Tennessee drivers of Shanon Buckingham, Robby Moses, Vic Hill, Billy Ogle Jr., Pierce McCarter and Stacy Boles.

On Friday July 29th, the pit gates open at 3:00, the grandstand and tier gates open at 4:00 pm and the driver’s meeting will be at 6:30 pm and hot laps will roll out soon after. Adult general admission is $20.00 per person while adult tier parking is $25.00 per person and adult pit passes are $35.00 per person.

The tire rule for the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series-sanctioned event at Smoky Mountain Speedway will be as follows: Hoosier 1350 and 1600 along with the American Racer 48 and 56 compounds. The series entry fee is $100. Also, the highest finishing driver using a CT525 engine package will receive a $200 bonus and the highest finishing driver using a Steel Head/SPEC engine package will receive a $200 bonus courtesy of the series.
