The FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Division will compete again the following night at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, PA

6th Annual UBB 29 Miners Memorial
$2900 To Win/$229 To Start

Friday night Princeton Speedway will host the 6th Annual UBB 29 Miners Memorial to honor the memories of 29 coal miners who lost their lives in an explosion at the Upper Big Branch Coal Mine just 65 miles northwest of the speedway near Montcoal, WV on Monday April 5, 2010

In the hours and days just after the 3:27 pm explosion, the courageous efforts of first responders and mine rescue teams involved in trying to rescue the trapped miners gripped the nation. Sadly, on April 9, 2010, then West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin announced all 29 miners had perished in what would become the worst coal mining tragedy in 40 years.

In July of 2012 the Upper Big Branch Miners Memorial opened in Whitesville, WV on the very site where the make-shift memorial all of us remember seeing on television was erected by members of the community where friends and families of the victims left pictures, mementos and personal messages to loved ones as candles were burnt around the clock at the site until the last of the miner's bodies were recovered.

The focal point of the Upper Big Branch Miners Memorial is the granite monument at the center of the memorial plaza. It is forty-eight feet long and nine feet tall. Etched on the front of the structure are the silhouettes of twenty-nine life size miners standing shoulder to shoulder.

Princeton Speedway will have commemorative t-shirts honoring those who perished which replicate the silhouette image on the memorial, 29 miners standing to shoulder. Additionally, the names of each miner lost in the UBB tragedy are on the t-shirt as well.

Throughout the night, the significance of the number 29 will be evident.

FASTRAK MOV driver T.J. Salango of Glen Daniel WV whose car number is 18 on any other night, will compete in the number 29 Friday night with a paint scheme dedicated to the UBB 29 miners.

The combined FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley/FASTRAK Southeast Touring Divisions main event will also see something a little different related to the payout for the event

The 6th Annual UBB 29 Miners Memorial is a $2900 To Win/$290 To Start event. In addition, the fastest qualifier will collect $229.00 for setting fast time.

FASTRAK Returns to Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex
$2500 To/Win $275 T0 Start

After a three-year absence, the FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Division returns to Markleysburg, PA’s Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex on Saturday night in a $2500 To Win/$275 To Start affair. Saturday nights event is the first of two FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Division stops at the scenic 3/8’s mile semi-banked oval slated for 2016

“We’re excited to once again host a FASTRAK Touring event” says Roaring Knob owner Rick Jones. “and we’re fortunate in that after this Saturday’s FASTRAK MOV race, we will have them back again later in the year”.

Jones goes on to say “I think folks up here are going to see something really special. The FASTRAK MOV guys have been putting on a heck of a show at Tyler County and Elkins. In fact, a couple of our guys here went to support Elkins a couple of weeks ago in the FASTRAK MOV Touring race there and the talk was about how competitive it was. Add to that, we’ve had some calls from FASTRAK Southeast guys asking about the Knob who plan to make the trip here after racing at Princeton in the UBB 29 Miners Memorial on Friday”.

“I think something else that makes this deal kind of neat is how close a lot of these guys are in both the FASTRAK MOV Regional point standings and the Fastrak Division 6 point standings that we are part of with Tyler County and Elkins. FASTRAK put the Divisional Point deal together this year that supports and rewards racers who would like to travel but just can’t. This Saturday nights race essentially will have impact on three levels from a points standpoint. Everyone in the field has something to gain and something to lose. How cool is that?

In addition to the FASTRAK Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Division, Roaring Knob’s local divisions Street Stock, Chargers, and 4-cylinder will be in action as well.

Pits will open at 4:30 and grandstands are set to open at 5pm.
