CARNESVILLE, Georgia (8/12/2016) – Race fans from all 50 states and also from several foreign countries visit the East Tennessee region two times a year for NASCAR racing at nearby Bristol Motor Speedway. With Volunteer Speedway hosting big-purse special events in mid-week during August race-week at Bristol, many out-of-state fans in the region for the NASCAR action enjoy making the short drive down Interstate 81 to take in a night of exciting dirt racing on the high banks at “The Gap.”

The Thursday, Aug. 18 racing program headlined by the Ultimate Super Late Model Series will feature Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and the 60-lap $12,000-to-win Scorcher — along with the Modified Street 25-lap feature.

Friday night both series head to Crossville Speedway in Crossville, TN in a $4,000 To Win/$400 shoot-out and wrap up three days of racing at Duck River Speedway in Wheel, TN where the winner collects $5000. Over the three days, the total payout will exceed well over $50,000

Ultimate “Battle of The Bluegrass” Super Late Model Series drivers expected to be on hand include Jeremy Hines of Seymour IN, and Derek fisher of Olympia, KY. Other possible “Bob” competitors that could appear include Mike Marlar of Winfield TN, the most recent winner in the Ultimate "BoB" SLMS as well as Dustin Linville of Lancaster KY, Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY and Edinburg, IN’s Chad Stapleton

Leading the Ultimate Super Late Model Series competitors to battle at Volunteer Speedway will be current points leader Dennis “Rambo” Franklin of Gaffney, S.C.; Glenn Elliott of Sykesville, Md.; Kenny Collins of Colbert, Ga.; Chris Ferguson of Mount Holly, N.C.; Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga.; Anthony Sanders of Charlotte, N.C.; Josh Langley of Lancaster, S.C. — plus possibly Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C.; Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga.; Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn.; Ray Cook of Brasstown, N.C.; Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., Ricky Weiss of Headingly, Manitoba, Canada; David Payne of Murphy, N.C.; Tommy Bailey of Corbin, Ky.; Justin Ratliff of Campbellsville, Ky.; and several others.

Previous Scorcher winners are: Randle Chupp (2004), Rick Eckert (2005), Scott Bloomquist (2006), Chris Madden (2007), Jimmy Owens and Shane Clanton (2008), Tim McCreadie (2009), Jimmy Owens and Scott Bloomquist (2010), Jimmy Owens (2011), Billy Ogle Jr. (2012), Chris Madden (2013), and Dale McDowell in 2014. The 2015 event last August fell victim to Mother Nature and was rained-out.

Over the years NASCAR drivers Kasey Kahne, Bill Elliott, 2011 Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne, Ryan Newman, Clint Bowyer, Ken Schrader, along with brothers Austin and Ty Dillon (grandsons of Richard Childress), Chase Elliott (son of Awesome Bill), John King (2012 Daytona International Speedway Camping World Truck Series winner), and Joey Coulter have raced at Volunteer Speedway.

East Tennessee locals expected include five-time (1997, ’98, 2000, ’05 and ’09) Volunteer Speedway track champion Vic Hill of Mosheim, Mark Douglas of Knoxville (2002 and ’03 champion), Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Shanon Buckingham of Morristown, Stacy Boles of Clinton, Powell’s Mark Vineyard, Chad Ogle of Sevierville, Maryville’s Tommy Kerr, Cory Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) of Loudon, Mack McCarter of Gatlinburg, Robby Moses of Maryville, Ryan King of Seymour, Skylar Marlar of Winfield, Jordon Horton of Sneedville, Bobby Mays of Jonesborough, plus others.

The grandstand gate will open at 5:30 p.m. and the pit gate opens on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 4 p.m. Drivers’ meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Hot laps are tentatively scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. (once sun sets over the track), to be followed by time trials and then green flag racing action.
