Top 5 for Shane Clanton at Knoxville; Cotton Pickin’ 100 Next

Zebulon, Georgia (09/21/16) – Shane Clanton hadn’t been to Knoxville Raceway in almost a decade, but that didn’t keep from registering a Top 5 finish in the 2016 edition of the event in his #25 Super K Express/ Capital Race Car/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

“This is really an awesome place, and to come out of here with a 4th-place finish is really a great accomplishment for our team,” said Clanton. “It was really awesome to see my fellow Capital racer, Mike Marlar get the victory.”

Piloting his Capital Race Cars #25 Super Late Model, Shane Clanton invaded Knoxville Raceway (Knoxville, Iowa) on Thursday for the opening round of the three-day 13th Annual Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores. With 69 cars registered for battle, Clanton qualified 5th fastest in his group, earning him the 6th-starting position for his heat. Improving four spots, Shane landed a runner-up finish behind Billy Moyer, securing his starting spot into the opening night, $7,000-to-win A-Main. Racing in the Top 5 for the duration of the 25-lapper, Shane Clanton posted a 4th-place finish behind Billy Moyer, Brandon Sheppard, and Josh Richards with Jimmy Mars finishing 5th.

On Friday night after taking part in qualifying, Clanton experienced mechanical issues and made the decision to scratch from the balance of the program to prepare for Saturday night's A-Main. Via his Thursday night performance, he already locked his spot into the finale

Starting in 9th for the $40,000-to-win A-Main, Shane worked his way into the Top 5 in the 100-lapper notching a 4th-place finish behind Mike Marlar, Scott Bloomquist, and Bobby Pierce with Billy Moyer coming in 5th.

“We were a tick off for the feature, but we still had a really good car,” said Clanton. “I want to thank Weldbank Energy, Super K Express, Capital Race Cars, Clements Racing Engines, VP Racing Fuels, Keyser Manufacturing, Hoosier Tire South, and all of my great sponsors.”
