Jimmy Mars Consistently Fast Throughout Knoxville Nationals; Punky Manor Ahead

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Mars Racing descended upon the historic Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa on September 15-17 for the 13th Annual 'Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals.' The three-day crown jewel event, which was sanctioned once again by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, drew 69 competitors to the sprawling 1/2-mile speedplant and things got underway in the Hawkeye State with a pair of $7,000 to win preliminary showdowns. On Thursday night, Jimmy Mars placed third in his heat race prior to knocking down a strong fifth place performance in the 25-lap sprint behind only winner Billy Moyer, Brandon Sheppard, Josh Richards, and Shane Clanton. At Knoxville on Friday evening, Jimmy once again ran third in his heat race before blasting past nine competitors during the 25-lapper en route to a solid seventh place showing.

By virtue of accumulating the fifteenth most points in Knoxville's unique format, Jimmy locked himself automatically into the inside of the eighth row for the start of Saturday's 100-lap 'Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals' finale, which once again boasted a hefty $40,000 payday. The Menomonie, Wisconsin standout pointed his Deppe Enterprises #28 MB Customs mount to the front in the extra-distance affair and eventually picked off nine cars - despite encountering brake issues - on his way to a stellar sixth place effort. Jimmy trailed only feature victor Mike Marlar, Scott Bloomquist, Bobby Pierce, Shane Clanton, and Billy Moyer to the checkered flag in what is scheduled to be his final open motor show of the 2016 season. Next up on the schedule is one of Jimmy’s favorite events each year – the 37th edition of the ‘Punky Manor Challenge of Champions’ at the nearby Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wisconsin. Jimmy will unload both a Late Model and a Modified on September 23-24 for the storied event, which pays $5,000 and $2,000 to win respectively for each division. The popular driver known as the “Iceman” has a combined eight victories in the ‘Punky Manor Challenge of Champions’ in his illustrious career including six in a Late Model and two in a Modified.
