Thumbs up Per Dirt On Dirt - MARS DIRTcar Series SOLD to Tennessee based group.................

Per the Dirt On Dirt website.
MARS DIRTcar Series SOLD to Tennessee based group.
New Owners plan two MARS divisions - East & West Series.
    - - - - -
Tennessee-based promoting group that plans West and East divisions for the DIRTcar-sanctioned organization, series co-owner William Scogin told DirtonDirt.com today.

Scogin, The promoter of Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway and three partners with Volunteer Racing Promotions, recently completed purchase of MARS from Monett (MO.) Speedway promoter Randy Mooneyham, Who operated the 16-year-old regional tour eight seasons.

"It's just time to pass the torch. You can't do it forever." said the 65-year-old Mooneyham, who enters his 37th year of promotions at Monett in 2017 and co-founded the Midwest LateModel Racing Association in 1989. "I've got other things I want to do and to see the chance for (MARS) to stay (DIRTcar), and I think William will make it bigger and better, so I'm a happy camper."

Scogin. 50, said the MASR west division will continue with few regional changes while the new East division that will provide regional touring events for Clarksville and other Dirt Late Model competitors.

"We're going to make a lot of mistakes, but we're just trying to make it better for everyone," said Scogins, , who plans to release more details about MARS at next month's Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in Indianapolis.

Scogin's partners are John McConnell, the owner of Clarksville Guns & Archery and a silent partner with Clarksville Speedway; William's brother Chris Scogin, who recently sold race supplier Scogin Enterprises; and Bedford, Ind.'s Mike Hobson, who operates Indiana Decal and T-Shirt gtrailer. With William Scogin committed to weekly operations at Clarksville, Chris Scogin and Hobson will primarily officiate MARS events.

A combine East-West division weekend will open the 2017 MARS tour March 3-4 at Clarksville. The West schedule is virtually complete while Scogin hopes to reveal the East division schedule at PRI. Scogin plans to discuss other plans with MARS drivers and promoters from long-time series tracks at the Dec. 3 postseason banquet in Joplin, MO.

MARS was founded by Batesville (Ark.) Motor Speedway promoter Mooney Starr in 2000, Popularizing double-wide restarts under Starr's direction MARS was purchased by DIRTcar in 2004 and Mooneyham took over in 2009 merging it with his fledgling Dirt LateModel Racing Association. Terry Phillips of Springfield, Mo., is the winningest MARS driver with 91 victories while Tony Jackson Jr. of Lebanon, Mo. became the first drive to win four strait championships in 2016.

Until they step up with $$$ it won't get any bigger. 2k to win 300 to start races don't really excite anyone to wanna haul 4-8hrs to race. Or half the schedule co sanctioned summer nationals races when they never get to run the lm20s at any other Mars race to have any kind of note book for softer tires. When they can run mlra and get tow money and typically better purses in the same area.

It didn't look to bad 88fan. I looked at the West Schedule and they have 30 races and only 2 of them are for 2k to win and 1 of them is a 2k and 3k weekend show at the same track. 16 races are 3k to win with several races at 5k or more. If I remember correctly MLRA and MARS don't overlap each other but a few times. So I am sure there are several of the guys that will run 1 of the series for points and the other for just something to do and make some money. Now that's just my observation though.

Their schedule is pretty close to what it's always been i know the entry fee is something the local teams don't like

Maybe the new owners wI'll drop the fee? When I would ask Mooneyham why they had it it was because some of the teams said it's a guaranteed tax write off. Basically the shows are 200 to start and not 300 he said. Lol

The few series regulars will run whatever and wherever just like always Nasty55. There will be a select few of those you listed that run it all no matter "West" or "East". I would say the guys that aren't able to travel a long ways or aren't financially able to travel, they will benefit the most. It's going to give those guys more chances to race for some special events at their home track or multiple tracks they go to. I'm looking forward to seeing the "East" schedule. If it's done right and the 2 schedules don't overlap, heck a guy like Stovall, Jackson, or Phillips can run both and walk away with 2 titles.
I think it's a big win for everyone in that region. We all know that a few tracks have slowly got away from Supers on a weekly basis in some areas. This may help some of those local racers that lost their home track get a chance at extra money as well as the tracks to boost their fan count for a special event. It can also help some tracks have some special events for Supers that never run Supers. Any time we can run with a "Sanctioned Series" we know we have guaranteed pay as well as have series officials make all the calls for tech and calls on the track. We have found it's WAY easier to go to the series officials than going to the track owner if a problem comes up. I know there is always a downside to a Series (entry fee for instance) but I would say overall it's a benefit for the racers and for the tracks.
