Eric Wells Earns $10,000 Payday in SNBS Fall Classic at Ponderosa Speedway

Junction City, KY (November 5, 2016)- Ponderosa Speedway would conclude its twinbill weekend of racing action on Saturday evening with 135 total race cars and conclude the 2016 race season with the 26th Annual Fall Classic presented by Caton Industrial Painting sanctioned by the Southern Nationals Bonus Series and Eric Wells of Hazard, KY would pick up his second career win in the event and garner the $10,000 payday. Other feature winners included in Victor Lee of Danville, KY in Modifieds, Zack Dohm of Cross Lanes, WV in Pro Late Models, James Crowe of West Liberty, KY in American Dirt Allstars KDRA Super Stock 2nd Annual Bobby Carrier, Sr. Memorial, John Mayer, Jr. of Edinburgh, IN in Stock Four Cylinders, and Dylan Rutherford of Corbin, KY in Mini-Cup/Cyclones.

Eric Wells would take the lead at the start of the 50 lap, $10,000 to win Southern Nationals Bonus Series sanctioned 26th Annual Fall Classic presented by Caton Industrial Painting, with Dave Hess, Jr. and Jason Welshan giving chase. Welshan would go second on lap 6 and give chase to Wells, who began working slower traffic on lap 9. Wells would weave his way in and out of heavy traffic and maintain a comfortable margin and would get clear race track when the caution waved on lap 19 for a slowed Justin Rattliff in turn two. Back underway, Wells would again set a torrid pace out front, while Welshan would now get pressure from Kent Robinson and Steve Francis for the second position. While Wells again pulled away from the field, Robinson and Francis would duel for third until the caution waved again on lap 31 when Chris Ferguson’s mount would slow on the backchute. This restart would see Robinson motor around Welshan for the runner-up position and close slightly on Wells for the lead, but Wells would turn the wick up on his machine when he started working slower traffic on lap 41. Wells would begin to drive off from Robinson until one final caution waved on lap 46 for a stopped Jason Jamison in turn two. The final restart would see Wells again shoot away from the competition and see the checkered flag first in the David Wells owned Wells Motorsports/Convenient Lube/Penske Shocks sponsored #18 Longhorn Chassis powered by a Cornett Race Engine. Robinson and Welshan would settle for the remaining podium finishing positions, while Donald McIntosh and Steve Francis completed the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be led by 18th starting Ray Cook, followed by Jackie Boggs, Chris Carpenter, Billy Moyer, Jr., and Tim Dohm. Wells would also be top qualifier among 37 entries at 13.346 seconds and win his heat, while Welshan, Hess, Jr., and Boggs were also heat race winners. Michael Chilton and Cook were B-Main winners, while provisional starting positions went to Doug Smith (series), Billy Ogle, Jr. (series), and Rattliff (track).

Victor Lee would make it a weekend sweep as he would lead all 25 laps in scoring his second Modified feature victory of the weekend behind the wheel of the Kerry Trowbridge owned Tri County Auto and Oil/Automotive Specialists/Dexter’s Gun and Ammo/Brunner and Son Lawn Maintenance sponsored #16 MBR Race Car with a Pro Power Race Engine. Shon Flanary would finish second, while Blake Brown would hold off the challenges of Ken Schrader for third, with Jimmy Lennox, Jr. completing the top five. Rounding out the top ten feature finishers were Paul Niznik, Jamie Mosley, Jeff Hamby, Troy Clark, and Keith Smith. Lee would also be top qualifier among 30 entries at 15.084 seconds and win a heat, while Trent Young and Dustin Linville were also heat winners. Billy Vaughn would capture the B-Main.

Zack Dohm would absolutely dominate the field in the Pro Late Model 25 lap feature contest to score his second win of the weekend in the A-1 Auto Group/Dohm’s Cycles/Axis Custom Decals sponsored #A-1 Swartz Race Car. Victor Lee would drive to a runner-up finish, with Philip Thompson capturing third position. The remainder of the top five would be Grant Garrison and Remington Gill. The second five finishers at the finish were Todd Coffman, Josh Fields, Shelby Miles, Chris Barton, and Ross White. Twenty-seven entries would see Dohm as top qualifier at 13.751 seconds and score a heat win, with Thompson and Lee scoring heat wins as well. Dylan Norman would win the B-Main.

The American Dirt Allstars KDRA Super Stock would see Eddie Stewart lead the opening eight circuits of the 2nd Annual Bobby Carrier, Sr. before he would suffered a right flat rear tire and would turn the lead over to James Crowe. Crowe would survive a rash of caution flag to score the $1,200 victory in the contest in his Tim Short Chrysler/C&C Tire and Repair sponsored #360c Adams Chassis machine. Jeremie Bretz would finish a close second, while Faron Robinson, Glen Hounshell, Jr., and Edwin Bentley finished third through fifth position. Completing the top ten were Stewart, Jeremy Creech, Johnny King, Robby Perkins, and Dylan Stevens. Eddie Stewart was top qualifier among 19 entries at 15.812 seconds and win a heat, with Bretz bagging the other heat win.

Greg Hensley would wage battle for second for most of the contest, with Hensley claiming the second position, while Shane Irvin would settle for third.
