Bryant Marsh Crowned 2016 Sunoco Young Gun Champ

Corinth, Mississippi (11/30/16) – The 2016 season has been a trying one for 16-year-old, Bryant Marsh. The talented, young racer has battled adversity not only on the track, but also away from it as his family had to endure some serious health scares.

Despite everything that Bryant had to face he persevered and never gave up. The end result was that the Corinth, Mississippi racer earned the 2016 Sunoco Young Gun Championship for his efforts behind the wheel of his Modern Woodmen #1 Subway/Trak-Star Late Model.

“This year has been really trying to say the least,” noted Marsh. “From my dad being sick to me not performing as well as I would’ve liked, we really had a lot to overcome, but this team just kept digging. To win the Sunoco Young Gun Championship really means a lot, but to know that my dad is healthy again means even more.”

The Sunoco Young Gun competition is part of the NeSmith Late Model Series program, and drivers, who are 18-years-of age and younger, accrue points at each event in which they compete. The driver, who accumulates the most points throughout the season is crowned the champion.

“There’s a lot of tough, young drivers out there right now so to be able to win this deal really means a lot,” continued Marsh. “I really want to thank my family, my sponsors, and everyone that supports my racing career. I’m confident that 2017 will be a much better year for our team.”

Bryant entered his final event of the 2016 season over the weekend as he battled in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series sanctioned, Possum Town Grand Prix at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi).

Preliminary action for the big event opened on Friday afternoon. With a stacked field of 66 Crate Late Models registered, Marsh qualified 5th fastest in his qualifying group, but unfortunately came up light at the scales. Starting on the tail of his heat race, Bryant jumped up four spots, but failed to transfer with a 7th-place finish. Transferring into the B-Main on Saturday for one final shot at qualifying for the $10,000-to-win A-Main, Bryant Marsh came up two positions short of a transfer spot with a 6th-place outing.

“We got behind the eight ball to start the weekend, but we never gave up,” commented Marsh. “The bad news is that we fell just short of making the feature, but the good news is that we had a really fast car against a really loaded field of racers.”
