Iron-Man Series Releases 2017 Touring Schedules for Late Models and Modifieds

SOMERSET, KY (December 28, 2016)—Officials with the Iron-Man Championship Series have announced the touring schedules for the second-year Super Late Model tour and the first-year Open Wheel Modified tour.

In addition to the schedule announcement, the series has announced that Schaeffer’s Oil will become the title sponsor of the Late Model series for the 2017 season renaming the series Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Series and a presenting sponsor will be announced soon. Brucebilt Performance in Knoxville, Tenn. will serve as the title sponsor of the newly named Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Series Modified Division. The Super Late Models and Modifieds will share the stage on nine occasions in 2017.

On the Late Model series, the second season will feature five new tracks during the 13-race slate. Boyd’s Speedway, Smoky Mountain Speedway, Ponderosa Speedway, Brownstown Speedway and 411 Motor Speedway join the schedule for the first time. The series will host five co-sanctioned events with the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series coming at Richmond Raceway on May 20th, 201 Speedway on June 30th, Tazewell Speedway on July 1st and September 3rd and Smoky Mountain Speedway September 16th.

The Late Model tour designed last season for the “Weekend Warriors” will pay the champion $2,500. Nightly awards from Schaeffer’s Oil and other tour sponsors will also be presented. Drivers will only be required to count their best eight finishes towards the final totals for the season allowing drivers more flexibility with their racing schedules including weather related postponements or changes to the schedule. One TBA race will be released in the near future.

The series hosted eight events in 2016 at Richmond Raceway, Mountain Motor Speedway, 201 Speedway, Tazewell Speedway and Volunteer Speedway. Tommy Bailey of Corbin, Ky. is the defending series champion.

The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series will feature 13 races from January to November allowing drivers to pick up points to chase the $1,000 series championship. Drivers will be allowed to count their eight best finishes at the end of the season towards the series points fund.

The Modified Series will open at Boyd’s Speedway on the Tennessee/Georgia border on January 28th during the annual Cabin Fever race. This will mark the first-ever appearance by the Open Wheel Modifieds racing at the David Duplissey and Dale McDowell owned oval. The series will also visit Ponderosa Speedway twice, Richmond Raceway three times for the Mike Roland Memorial, Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial and the Butch Shay Memorial. The series will also make two stops to Tazewell Speedway, Smoky Mountain Speedway and 411 Motor Speedway. Volunteer Speedway will host one event.
