Richmond Raceway Announces Exciting 51st Season of Racing Schedule for 2017

Richmond, KY (January 2, 2017)- Richmond Raceway co-promoters Larry, Chad, and Sarah Yantz are pleased to announce the 2017 racing schedule for the 51st season of racing competition at Richmond Raceway in Richmond, KY. The 2017 racing calendar at the 3/10 mile semi-banked red clay oval known as “The Beast of the East” will feature eighteen events on Saturday over the course of the year.

The 2017 racing season will be begin with an open practice for all divisions on Friday April 21 from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., followed the next evening on Saturday April 22 with the 51st Annual Season Opener event. The featured divisions at the track in 2017 will be Late Models, Modifieds, KDRA Super Stocks, and Stock Four Cylinders.

The Late Model division will feature a pair of $10,000 to win events during the season, with the first taking place on May 20 as the inaugural Mike Roland Memorial will be contested and will be co-sanctioned by the Schaeffer’s Oil Bonus Series presented by Sunoco/Tennessee RV and the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Series, paying $10,000 to win. The track’s marquee event, the 30th Annual Sunoco Race Fuels Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial, is set for July 22 and will pay $10,059 to the winner of that event, which will be sanctioned by the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Series. The Late Model division will race for extra in three unsanctioned events as well, with $2,000 to win up for grabs in the season opener on April 22, along with the $2,100 to win 3rd Annual Butch Shay Memorial on June 17, and the 3rd Annual Finn Watson Memorial on September 17, paying $2,500 to win. The Beast of the East Clash will conclude the season on October 7 and will pay $3,000 to win for the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Series. The Late Model division will race for $1,500 to win at their regular show events.

The Modified division will also feature several extra-money to win races during the 2017 season as well. The highest paying to win event for the division will be on June 17 with the $2,100 to win 3rd Annual Butch Shay that will be sanctioned by the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Series Modified Division, as well as sanctioning the Modified class at the Mike Roland Memorial on May 20 ($1,200 to win), and the Sunoco Race Fuels Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial on July 22 ($1,259 to win). Other unsanctioned extra-money events for the open-wheel racers will be the $1,500 to win Modified Spring Shootout May 6, the $1,500 to win Modified Mayhem contest on July 8, and $1,200 to win events at the Finn Watson Memorial September 17 and Beast of the East Clash October 7. The Modified division will race for $1,000 to win at their regular show events.

The KDRA Super Stocks also several good paying to win events at the track in 2017, headlined by the 3rd Annual KDRA Super Stock Nationals on August 19 that will pay $2,500 to win. Other extra-money to win dates on the calendar for the division include the KDRA Super Stock Spring Fling on May 13 paying $1,200 to win, the 3rd Annual Saturday Night Showdown on June 24 paying $1,000 to win, the Summer Sizzler on June 15 paying $1,500 to win, and $1,000 to win at the Beast of the East Clash on October 7. The KDRA Super Stock division will race for $750 to win at their regular show events.

The Stock Four Cylinders will have a pair of $1,000 to win events during the season, with Four Cylinder Fury event taking place on June 3 and the Four Cylinder Rumble contest going on September 2. Other extra-money to win events include $750 to win at the Saturday Night Showdown June 24 and another $750 to win contest at the Beast of the East Clash on October 7. The Stock Four Cylinder division will race for $500 to win at their regular show events.

Of note, a couple of other nights for race fans to mark on the calendar will be the always-popular Meet the Drivers on September 23, where the fans get to come down on the track and meet and greet with all the drivers, along with Fan Appreciation Night on September 30.
