Pooler, GA – Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Pooler, GA is the latest speedway to join the list of NeSmith Weekly Racing Series sanctioned tracks. Along with the addition of the NeSmith Weekly Racing Series sanction for their Late Model division on a weekly basis for their Friday night programs, they have also added two dates to the end of the RockAuto.com Winter Shootout Series with a $2,000 to win, 40 lap event on Friday March 24th and a $2,500 to win, 50 lap feature on Saturday March 25th. These new dates will complement the other dates that OSP has on the National Touring schedule later in 2017.

Oglethorpe Speedway Park will celebrate its 66th racing season during 2017, and with the addition of new General Manager Darry Courson effective January 1st, the future looks bright for the speedway. “OSP has been running a Crate Late Model division as part of their racing program for several seasons. With the addition of the NeSmith Weekly Racing sanction and the Touring division shows it will help to strengthen the division and grow our car counts,” stated Courson, “The exposure and publicity that the track and our competitors will receive, and the tech department at NeSmith Racing are some of the many perks that we are looking forward to.”

The Stone family, who have owned and operated the Speedway since 1977, are excited to begin the new chapter and have placed their full support behind Courson and the decisions he makes concerning OSP going forward. There are many things planned for the facility in the near future with one being a reconfiguration of the current ˝ mile surface to a 3/8 mile surface with new clay at the end of the 2017 season.

“We have had a long relationship with Darryl (Courson) and are excited to see what he and Stone family have in store for OSP. Darryl is a first class guy, excellent promoter , and understand what it takes to be successful in short track racing,” stated NeSmith Racing Founder and CEO Mike Vaughn, “we are excited to be a part of the family at Oglethorpe Speedway Park and look forward to much success for them and their competitors.”

NeSmith Racing Weekly Racing Series competitors compete against drivers from across the country during the 27 week Weekly Racing season. Drivers will count their best 14 finishes towards their final points total to determine the year end National Champion. Drivers will receive their local “track” points fund payouts and be in competition for the $10,000 to win Weekly Racing Series Championship.
