The democrats used their power to sway the treasurer to fund the teachers union pension.I am sure you know that right?
I have to disagree a little bit on the Union thing. That was AFSME union and includes Firemen, Police City and State employees that had an agreement for a pension in place of lower wages. Not only Chicago but every state and city government spent the pension money. They let it slide till it was too late to make the promise good. That is exactly what happened. It was Republican cities as well as Democratic. But your right about Chicago, taking more of the tax revenue than it contributes. That made it easier to spend that pension money.

The Chicago Teachers Pension is flat broke. Reports say 10,000 teachers will be collecting retirement benefits of 100,000 dollars per yr. or more by end of this year. That does not include police, fire, or city workers. Teachers alone cost 1 billion this year, who do you think is paying that?

The Chicago teachers Union is a crime to all taxpayers in that state. Then you add all of the rest of those unions for city services, it's just horrible, and the elected people that created it did it all for power and elections. They were bought and paid for by the unions and donors.

The government was supposed to put so much in each year. That was part of the teachers pay. You and I paid the taxes to do that. They spent the money and now want us to pay again or cheat the teachers out of their pay. I guess we have that coming for electing crooked politicians. If you look, most teachers will not be collecting anywhere close to over $100,000, but it's still more than the taxpayer can afford.

If this pension thing goes like I think it's going to go there are a whole lotta' good people who will get royally screwed. The wife of one of our best friends is is a teacher who's about 4 or 5 years from being able to retire. Due to pension rules she is exempt from Social Security and she's never paid into it and will be 100% dependent upon the teachers pension for the rest of her live. Since she started teaching right out of college she's got nearly 30 years in right now and is eligible for full pension benefits soon.

What you just typed here says it wasn't the Unions fault at all. They where representing people just like us. If they paid politicians to cut that deal. We should not have voted in those politicians. We should have put a better candidate to run against them. Sorry It is our fault and you can blame every one else but It's still our fault. We shouldn't have said, it's no use trying. We own it and now we are going to pay for it. Same for the SS deal in Washington.
