Seratt Motorsports Hits the Ground Running in USMTS Action

Dyersburg, Tennessee (02/28/17) – Seratt Motorsports with drivers Ashley Newman and Preston Seratt entered a trio of United States Modified Touring Series events over the weekend. While their finishes revealed a mixed bag of results, it was still a strong weekend for the team.

“We had some random part’s failures and other bad luck, but the bottom line is that we both qualified for all three events,” noted Seratt. “Those USMTS guys are really tough and there was close to 40 cars every night, so we are very pleased with our results.”

Making the first start of the season with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS), Preston Seratt and Ashley Newman traveled to Jackson Motor Speedway (Byram, Mississippi) on Friday for the opening night of a three-race swing with the Summit Racing USMTS Southern Region presented by Production Jars. Charging to a heat race win from the 4th-starting position, Seratt earned the 8th-starting spot for the feature, while Newman earned the pole position for the main after capturing his own heat race victory. Rolling off 8th for the feature, Preston Seratt was running as high as 4th until suffering a flat right-rear tire and a broken pull bar. Losing positions but able to finish the race, Seratt limped across the finish line in 16th, while Newman slipped back to a 20th-place outing.

On Saturday 44 USMTS followers headed to Whynot Motorsports Park (Meridian, Mississippi) for another $3,000-to-win A-Main. Scoring a runner-up finish from the 5th-starting spot in his heat, Preston earned the pole position for the feature. Ashley fell short of a transfer position in his heat after placing 6th but edged his way into the main event with a 5th-place finish in his B-Main. Jumping into the lead on the drop of the green flag, Seratt held the top spot for only three laps, but battled for a Top-5 finish throughout the race. Making contact with another competitor late in the 40-lapper, Preston dropped back to a 7th-place finish. Ashley was unable to get anything started from the back of the pack, ultimately placing 23rd.

Wrapping up the Summit Racing USMTS Southern Region weekend on Sunday, Seratt Motorsports stopped at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi) for another shot at the $3,000 top prize. Falling short of a transfer position in his heat with a 3rd-place spot, Seratt scored a 3rd-place finish in his B-Main locking himself into the finale. Ashley Newman started the day off by posting a heat race victory, putting him 7th on the starting rundown for the feature. Slipping out of the Top 10, Newman dropped back to a 16th-place outing, while Preston lost three spots in the 40-lapper registering a 21st-place finish.
