COMP Cams Super Dirt Series Opens 2017 this Weekend

Beebe, Arkansas (03/28/17) – The COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) presented by Lucas Oil launches into the 2017 season this weekend with a Texas two-step.

The lid gets lifted on Friday night at Timberline Speedway (Corley, Texas). On Saturday evening the tour makes its debut at Sam Hafertepe’s Lone Star Speedway (Kilgore, Texas).

Fresh off his second-straight title, Jack Sullivan will lead the series regulars into battle. Off the heartbreak of losing the 2016 CCSDS title in the final event, Hunter Rasdon returns with a new focus on getting his first-series crown.

Other early-season contenders include two-time CCSDS champion, Kyle Beard as well as former CCSDS champion Jon Mitchell. Chandler Petty, Austin Theiss, David Payne, Jonathan Rowan, Garrett Alberson, and BJ Robinson have thrown their names into the hat to start the season as well.

Texas racer, Zack McMillan has voiced an intent to contend for the Rookie of the Year title along with Arkansan Brandon Wilson and Louisiana racer, Tanner Kellick. A handful of other drivers have voiced their intent as well and will have until the third weekend of competition to declare rookie status.

The season opens on Friday, March 31 at Timberline Speedway (Corley, Texas) with a $2,000-to-win/$350-to-start, 30-lap event. Austin Rettig was victorious in the sole visit to the oval in 2016. Gates open at 5 pm. with racing action at 8 p.m. Grandstand admission is $20 for adults with kids (12-and-under) FREE. Pit admission is $35. On Saturday, April 1 the tour enters unfamiliar territory as it sanctions its first-ever event at Lone Star Speedway (Kilgore, Texas). The program will be headlined by a $3,000-to-win/$450-to-start, 40-lap finale at the 3/8-mile oval. All non-qualifiers with the CCSDS will receive $150. Also in action will be Modifieds, Limited Modifieds, Factory Stocks and 4-Cylinders. Adult grandstand admission is $20 with senior citizens $15 and kids (6-11 years of age) $5. Pit passes are $35. Pit gate opens at 3 p.m. with grandstand gates at 5 p.m. The driver’s meeting is at 6:15 p.m. with hot laps and racing action to follow. P&W Sales provides drilling and oil field products to countless companies. More information on the company can be found at www.p-wsales.com/ .

Hot Springs, Arkansas-based McClain Custom Cabinets is also a new CCSDS marketing partner for 2017. The company is owned by racer, Robbie McClain.

“I want to thank all of these sponsors from the bottom of my heart,” notes CCSDS CEO Chris Ellis. “Their generous support allows us to do as much as possible for the racers. I encourage all of our fans, racers, and crews to please support any and all of our marketing partners whenever possible.”

Notable rule changes for 2017 have recently been released and are outlined below:

Front tires for all races will now be Hoosier 1350. The rear tire rule will remain the same as it was in 2016. This weekend Hoosier 40/55’s will be allowed on the rear.

Due to co-sanctioned events with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) point racers and those wishing to participate in the Bad Boy 98 and COMP Cams Topless 100 at Batesville Motor Speedway must meet all Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) requirements.

However, there will be some concessions for racers, who will only run CCSDS stand-alone events in 2017. The following clarifications and rules will apply.
1. Fire suppression systems will be required on all cars, but there will be a three-race weekend grace period allowed for teams to install the systems. In addition, the series will also allow mechanical fire suppression systems. However, the automated system is highly recommended.

2. Nightly inspections of all racecars will allow CCSDS officials to address fuel cells and seats. These will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. Again the series will allow a transition period for those who may need it.

3. In regards to the new rules on left-rear suspension and weight, the series will address these issues in pre and post-race inspections on a nightly basis. Series officials will make sure there are not improper components and that they are not exceeding what is allowable by rules. Podium finishers will be checked thoroughly after the feature each night.

4. The CCSDS will continue to test tires as they have in the past and will utilize the sniffer as well.

5. The weight rule for open motors is 2,350 with 1 pound of burn-off per lap. Weight rule for steel blocks 2250 with 1 pound of burn-off per lap.
