Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Spring Showdown at Ponderosa Speedway Friday April 14

Junction City, KY (April 9, 2017)- Ponderosa Speedway track promoter Jamie Stumph and co-owner Larry Redenivs are set to present the first Super Late Model event of the 2017 season at the 3/8 mile D-shaped red clay oval better known as “Kentucky’s Baddest Bullring” on Friday April 14 as the Ray Cook-promoted Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals presented by Sunoco Race Fuel and Tennessee RV will sanction the 5th Annual Spring Showdown, paying $4,000 to win for Super Late Models, along with a full racing program for Pro (Crate) Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, KDRA Super Stocks, Stock Four Cylinders, and Mini-Cup/Cyclones.

Of note for this event, the drivers meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. for all divisions. Practice laps are set to begin at 7:00 p.m., followed immediately by time trials and green flag racing. It is important that all racers attempt to be at the track and signed-in by 6:30 p.m. for this event.

The 5th Annual Spring Showdown will feature the Ray Cook-promoted Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals presented by Sunoco Race Fuel and Tennessee RV Super Late Models, with the main event of the evening being the 40 lap, $4,000 to win/$400 to start 5th Annual Spring Showdown for the Super Late Models. Also on the 5th Annual Spring Showdown racing program for Friday April 14 will be the track’s Pro (Crate) Late Models in competition racing for $1,000 to win, Open Wheel Modifieds racing for $800 to win, KDRA Super Stocks racing for $750 to win, Stock Four Cylinders racing for $400 to win, and Mini-Cup/Cyclones racing for $100 to win. Super Late Models will have a separate practice and time trial session, while Pro (Crate) Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, and KDRA Super Stocks will utilize the practice/time trials combo format to determine heat race starting positions. Stock Four Cylinders and Mini-Cup/Cyclones will draw for heat race starting positions. The track utilizes transponder timing/scoring and transponder rental will be $10 and RACEceivers are mandatory for use in all divisions each time a driver is on the track.

The Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals presented by Sunoco Race Fuel and Tennessee RV will be in charge of the Super Late Model portion of the program. The tire rule for the event is as follows: Hoosier 1350, 1600 and American Racer 48, 56. These are the only compounds that will be legal on both the front and rear tires of the Super Late Models. The series will also take random tire samples throughout the course of the evening as well. The entry fee for Super Late Models is $100.

Ponderosa Speedway 2016 Super Late Model track champion Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY would drive to the victory in the $4,000 to win Spring Nationals event in 2016, with Jason Jameson of Lawrenceburg, IN, Eddie Carrier, Jr. of Salt Rock, WV, Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, GA, and Dustin Linville of Bryantsville, KY completing the top five in the event that saw 29 entries representing eight states signed in for competition. Two-time and defending Spring Nationals champion Donald McIntosh is the current series points leader, followed by Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA, Brandon Overton of Evans, GA, Michael Page of Douglasville, GA, and Casey Roberts of Toccoa, GA.

Activities for the 5th Annual Spring Showdown at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday April 14 will see the pit area and general admission area open at 4:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., with practice/time trial combo laps set to begin at 7:00 p.m., while the first race will take the green flag at 8:15 p.m. All times EDT. Ticket prices for the April 14 Spring Showdown event at Ponderosa Speedway in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, with children ages 12 and under FREE. A pit pass will be $35, with children ages 6 to 12 $15, while children ages 5 and under FREE.
