After the first two ULTIMATE SE races of the 2017 season, Brandon Overton of Evans, GA is 2 and 0. He took the wins in the season opener on March 4 at North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, GA, and then won again last Saturday night in the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth paying $20,000-to-win at Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, VA.

Overton will not make it three in a row, as his Randy Weaver Racing Team has indicated they will not be at Modoc Raceway this Saturday, and the second-place driver in the points, Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN will also be a no-show at the Jack Starrette Memorial 50. This is going to set up wholesale changes in the ULTIMATE SE point standings.

Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA is third in the ULTIMATE SE points chase, 12 points out of first-place with 58 points. Davenport is a confirmed entrant with the Barry Wright Race Cars “House Car” for the Jack Starrette Memorial 50, and he will be looking for his first Super Late Model win of the season on Saturday night.

“We haven’t gotten off to the start we were looking for this season with the Super Late Model program, but we’ve won three straight with our crate car,” Davenport said. “We’re looking for some of that success to rub off on the Super Late Model program and we can get that turned around with some wins.”

Jason Welshan of Maryville, TN is fourth in the ULTIMATE SE standings with 52 points, and finished second in the season opener driving the Hidden Hollow Motorsports entry. Welshan is also among the confirmed entrants at Modoc Raceway this Saturday night. Tyler Milwood is fifth in the ULTIMATE SE standings with 49 points, and he leads the Autolite/Fram/DirtOnDirt.com Rookie of the Year point standings as a confirmed entrant in the Jack Starrette Memorial 50.

The defending Champion of the ULTIMATE SE Tour Dennis “Rambo” Franklin of Gaffney, SC is sixth in the standings with 35 points. Franklin has won two straight Jack Starrette Memorial 50 “special” Dump Truck Trophies, and will be looking to become the first driver with three of them this Saturday night.

Another driver looking for his third Jack Starrette Memorial 50 win is Chris Ferguson of Mt. Holly, SC, who has won the last two races. If Ferguson can win Saturday night, not only will he be the first driver to win three, but also three straight. Both Franklin and Ferguson drove for Jack Starrette, and Ferguson still carries the familiar #22 on the doors of his Super Late Model.

Brett Hamm is seventh in the ULTIMATE SE standings with 35 points and he is a confirmed entrant in the Jack Starrette Memorial 50 this Saturday night at Modoc Raceway. Other entries confirmed for the race include three-time ULTIMATE SE Champion Casey Roberts, Ivedent Lloyd, Dustin Mitchell, G.R. Smith, Kenny Collins, Anthony Sanders, Doug Sanders, Brian Ledbetter, Tony Quarles, Jin Manka, John Langley, Brian Connor, Brian Ligon, Scott Shirey, Zack Mitchell, Kelly Guy, and Johnny Pursley.

Jack Starrette was a friend to many in dirt late model racing, not just the competitors that he sponsored through the years, but to all competitors – even some he didn’t know – to track owners, racing series, and to the fans. The mark Starrette made on the sport earned him Induction into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in the Class of 2013 as a Special Contributor to the Sport.

Through his Augusta, GA businesses Starrette Trucking and Starrette Specialized Hauling, the man known by most as Mr. Jack, owned and sponsored numerous dirt late models until his untimely death in a construction accident in 2010 at the age of 79. The list of drivers Starrette has sponsored through the years reads like a Who’s Who of dirt late model racing, both past and present.

Dirt Late Model drivers that piloted cars with the Starrette name on the quarter panel include National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductees Mike Duvall, Mike Head, Jack Pennington, and Ronnie Johnson. It’s almost a given that the list of Hall of Fame drivers Starrette has sponsored through the years will continue to grow in the future.

Also driving Starrette sponsored cars through the years were Ricky Weeks, Roberts, Jeff Smith, Buckshot Miles, Randle Chupp, Phillip Seifert, Jon Henderson, Ricky Elliott, and Jeremy Clements.

In addition to the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series South East Region Tour, the Crate and Stock V-8 Divisions will also pay tribute to Jack Starrette this Saturday night at Modoc Raceway. Each feature event in those two Divisions will pay $1,222-to-win.

This Saturday, the gates will open at 4 p.m., and the Drivers’ Meeting is set for 7 p.m. with racing to follow. The 7th Annual Jack Starrette Memorial Race will also feature the Crate Late Models and Stock V-8s.
