Looking like its going to be a great field of cars tonight! I'm going to be making my first trip back to Volunteer since 2011, when I told myself that I would never be back because of the HORRIBLE track prep & not getting home until 2a.m. because they didn't know how to run a show. Crossing my fingers & hoping that things have really changed.

I don't know about track prep, however they are dragging this thing out already. It's 912 pm and first heat in any class has yet to run. So, it doesn't look like the dragging it out has improved any.

The track was great and the racing very good. I really like this track. Unfortunately my kid fell asleep about 9:15 and he didn't get to see even one heat race, they weren't quite done with qualifying yet. To my mind the drivers meeting should have wrapped up at 6:30, not 7:30, and I don't know why the sportsmen and modified street cars have to qualify. The show moved along fine, once it finally got moving!

I will add that I'll be back, and it's good for me that he'll sleep through a full field of supers without even moving. But big picture, if we want to get the youth interested I think that showing them some actual racing before they nod off would be a good plan.

Volunteer Speedway is definitely headed in the right direction after last night. The racing surface was by far the best I've ever seen it, however the supers went caution free & the race still didn't get over until a little after midnight!! Fix that problem and the stands will be packed for every race.
